Two easy ways to increase search traffic - penguin/panda

1. Add more content on your pages.

I have one site that was getting a few hundred visitors per day, down from a high if a few thousand, since google unleashed the animals.

The site is HTML + some graphics, and has a few hundred pages of content.

So First I looked at which sections of the site are most popular. These correspond to certain subfolders/subdirectories based on how the site is organised.

I look for the shortest files in these folders, and add more and more relevant content. Some pics, mostly graphics, also name anchor links within the page since the page s now really long.

In a command prompt window, to find the shortest files do something like

Dir *.HTML /o-s

Do this regularly, and my traffic has tripled, and still rising


2. Use rel="nofollow" on every affiliate link, banner, etc

I tried this in combination with #1, and sometimes independently on several sites. It definitely helps, sometimes dramatically. The affiliate links in question were Amazon, CB, and CJ ones.

      I don't know why, but there seems to be some kind of penalty on do-follow links to ads/affiliate networks. No follow seems to remove the penalty.

      Correlation is not causation, but changing hundreds of affiliate links on a website to no follow, and changing nothing else, made a surprising difference. Done it a few times, each time a difference.
