Dynamic URLs for SEO - good or bad?

I just launched a forum for one of my niche websites and it still has dynamic URLs. I tried changing it but the script broke the forum when I edited my .htaccess file.

I am currently using Mybb for this website. I've used Vbulletin and PHPbb in the past, but this time went with MYbb because it's straight forward and easy.

Youtube uses dynamic urls and has no problems getting traffic

Plus SEO urls tend to get long like some of the WSO so I am thinking the whole SEO benefits is complete garbage.

SEO is more about links and words - not URL configs.

That's just my opinion. Am I missing something here?

    But you know who owns Youtube, so bad comparison here.

    I'm sure you're testing, but I'll DEFINITELY use only vbulletin for the amount of free and paid plugins/add-ons it has and it has just been the best script for forums for more than 10 years now..even after new ownership.

    vBSEO shall you consider it eliminates this doubt you have. Push the benefits and keep the doubts out no matter the response here. My take, highly consider staying with the best when your forums has receive enough growth or when you simply can afford the jump to it. Nothing beats vBulletin and vBSEO benefits in my experience.

    It's fine to have Dynamic URLs. One problem that is worth mentioning is the possibility of getting the content duplicated. So, it's a good idea to place a cannonical tag on these URLs.
