Squidoo nofollow, deleting lenese, etc.

Squidoo seems to be on a mission ever since they started
a global nofollow policy. I have many friends who have had
very good lenses(on the surface) locked and deleted. A lot of
hard work can go up in smoke.

So, here's something you might want to think about. Do
you have some good content lenses that are for the
most part, unique? If so, are they getting tons of traffic?
If they are not, your backlinks on the pages are now
worthless. You should copy the content over to a dot
com or other, and then delete the lens.

If you have had a lens deleted or can't view it now, you
may be able to use the wayback machine and scrape
the content.

I have had only 1 or 2 good lenses blocked. The few others
were getting zero traffic, so no big deal.

Squidoo seems to be on a mission to be the biggest amazon
affiliate in the universe. That's what I'm concentrating on now.
What are my good amazon lenses? I need to go through them
and make sure they can pass any auto-filter.

I believe they are scanning every new lens as well. I am not
going to create any new lenses. I'm done with that.

But be sure and protect YOUR content first and foremost.

Paul

    Very good idea!

I've been having a bit of trouble with Squidoo accepting my lenses lately - they seem to accept some and not other for no apparent reason. Meaning content would be of similar quality and level, yet they decide to pick and choose what to accept.

Yeah I hear you. Obviously the ones who got hit will complain the
loudest, but it does seem as if the algo is arbitrary. Too
arbitrary. It's like tossing the baby out with the bathwater.

They could have done different things. What kinds of things?
Beats me, but they are the experts, right? They should have
really come up with a better plan. But, they have a right
I suppose. Just protect your content. Makes no sense to create
agood lens, then have it deleted. Getting locked is very bad.
You can't even see it. That's one thing they should change.
You can view it in your account when logged in.

    Paul,
It's FTYM, never could read your PM because I got a 3 day ban looooool (don't ask)

Anyways, nothing locked so far, and my links are still in tact and passing juice so I don't know... You are giving really good advice here about the content. I have copies of everything we write here, we keep all that as docs even after we finish with a client.

Usually a lens is deleted 60 days after being locked, so you should have time to fix it or scrape it.

I usually ad 500 - 1000 words of content to my lens , mostly all with my own amazon associate id , but I always add a squidoo amazon module to keep them happy. Try to keep the amount of amazon links low or they could say you are over marketing your lens.

The nofollow really sucks, I had many good pages of High PR going to my main sites. Oh well , that is life.

You can't fix it. That's my warning here. A locked lens is gone. You can't
see it or edit it. I think you can see it on the wayback machine. And,
I think you can appeal via email. Not much sense in trying. They don't
answer emails much and they must be slammed.

I agree with the nofollow having made me less likely to fix or create
        lenses. Why bother?

I did follow my own advice. Saved the best articles for my sites.

Thing is, I was traffic funneling and backlinking like a son of a gun.

But, just discovered the magic of email, done right, that is.

I also picked up on FB.

My earnings on squidoo will probably not go down for the most part.
Knock on wood my best amazon lenses stay up.

Yukon, squidoo has been very easy for me to make sales, as opposed
to my stuff. Maybe because I promoted them better for backlinks.

Slap together a decent amazon lens, and you can start making money
        almost right away.

Congratulations. You've just turned a 3-day ban on one account into a permanent ban on two accounts.

    I don't do Squidoo.

If your making Amazon money via Squidoo, why would you not bail on Squidoo & rank your own web page for the same keyword/traffic?

Does Squidoo do something you can't do on your own?

That's what I've always thought too.

Probably the inner searching for pages/topics in squidoo from regular users? I'm not sure though.

The pages of squidoo used to rank faster than usual webpages. This is why people used to love it the most.

I am not really sure if they are deleting good quality lenses too. If they are doing so, they are going to loose a big number of good quality lenses and big number of active users.

I used to love squidoo because the PR of a page would rise fast and you could have manr PR 3 - PR 4 to link from.

You can send many backlinks to squidoo pages without having a problem with google. It was also easier to rank a squidoo page a few months ago.

This said, I do not own squidoo and that was a big disavantage.

I will use the squidoo pages now as a experiment with citation links, saw it on SEOmoz , want to see if it is fiction or something to look in too.

By experience, squidoo used to be very nice, easy to sale products and good links to funnel traffic and PR.

Checking some of my Lenses now. They've got some I think are perfectly fine within what Squidoo wants. Their choice to go global no follow makes me less inclined to fix the "problems" though.

Yeah, it seems pretty pointless to even bother anymore. I had a couple lenses that they flagged. I fixed those up and they approved them, only for them to be flagged again the next week. There is absolutely no consistency.

The majority of the traffic my best lenses used to see is way down as well. I used to participate on the site quite a bit, but it really doesn't make much sense anymore.

Ok squidoo backlinks are no follow but index by search engine, so that can be some helpful for referral traffic. squidoo page is indexed by search engine and may a real internet user can in your website to visit your offers/services/products if content unique and readable.

If you obey squidoo terms of use then your lenses will not delete or blocked.

Well, Squidoo has locked 2 of my lenses as well. I didn't have Amazon affiliate links on either of them. However, on one of them I had links to my site, and that also just 2. That lens was on health niche and generating tons of traffic. I wonder why was that locked...

But I had stopped writing on Squidoo long time back. So, it's ok with me.

Squidoo is a great site, that users love...and Squidoo wants to keep it that way, and who can blame them.

Squidoo is so easy to use, and has such Google love that all you have to do is "create quality content" like everyone says.....sigh.

It's true though. You can make a totally legit, 100% helpful Squidoo lens in 30 minutes that won't get locked or deleted, it will be useful to you.

At one time I had 2 squidoo lenses that brough in 500 uniques a day. I sold (gifted as part of a domain sale) them so i don't have them anymore, but they were awesome.

I made around $100/month JUST from their ad pool and text link sharing program they have...it was money literally for nuthin.

Be good to Squidoo, and they will be good to your right back.
