Hubpages is beating my main website for keyword ranking

Hi all. This is ironic, maybe a bit embarrassing :p. My website title is tailored to rank for the keyword "stock market forum": Stock Market Forum and Finance Discussion | AlphaBanter in Google.

Now I wrote an article at Hubpages (which is nice since I've gotten some visitors to my main website from it): Best Stock Market Forums

Now the problem is this - my Hubpages article outranks my main website for the search term "stock market forum" - it currently shows up on the third page when I test it on Google. However, my main website is unranked. I know I have to build more backlinks to my main website and that can make a difference. Having said that, my Hubpages article has no backlinks either! I never bothered to work on backlinks for my Hubpages but somehow, it magically ranks on the third page in Google. My Hubpages article is also younger than my website.

My best guess as to why my Hubpages article outranks my main website is that perhaps Hubpages has more trust with Google? Does anybody else have any experience with this? I suppose I need that many more backlinks and trust for my main website to beat my Hubpages article?

(Also, I am aware that some will suggest putting the article on my main website instead - I'm aware of this strategy but for these types of articles I write, it does not make sense to put it on my website/forum).

Not sure of the domain age for your website, but that will play a role in how you rank. Sure you already know that though. Do you have sufficient content on your homepage? A well optimized article on your homepage can bring you up significantly in SERP's.

Anyway, I gave up with Hubpages. Removed most my articles and just put then on my website. The only reason I put up articles on Hubpages was to get a dofollow link. I was getting good traffic to my articles but no dofollow link came from it...waste of time.

The article is about stock discussion forums to visit while my main site is one of those stock discussion forums Doesn't make sense to post the article on my site.

My website is about 6 months old while the HUB pages article is only 2 months old. Still can't explain how my Hubpages article can outrank my site for the keywords "stock market forum", other than Hubpages has more trust from Google (neither the Hubpages article nor my site has many backlinks).
