I Chased My Rankings Away

I'm not too worried (or should I be?). My site was originally geared toward ranking a couple easy keywords, but I saw I was ranking #40 for a great related keyword (40,000 searches $2 - $3 a click).

I created 50 new pages with each of the states plus the keyword or variations of the keyword. I mixed up the text in each page.

That was over the last couple days. Today, I'm not in the top 1,000 for that keyword.

Will I settle in with great rankings for that keyword, or did I chase it away forever?

Depends. What other SEO have you done?

Google ranking may fluctuates at the beginning. That may be the case for your website also.

Moreover the changes which you made to your website is related to on page SEO activity. It may or may not affect your ranking that much (for competitive keyword effect is lesser). Now concentrate on the off page or link building part which is quite essential if you are trying to rank competitive keyword. And see how it goes.

    Carl,

    I would not worry.

I can understand how you feel.

It is frustrating fall in rankings when working hard to increase them.

I doubt your ranking is gone forever, although it is likely it was connected to the 50 new pages.

    1. Add new content at least once a week.

    2. Prioritize Linking.

    3. Be vigilant and keep doing all the things again that gave you better rankings before the drop.

Also you could try changing the keywords for the 50 new pages to something different or remove them altogether and see what happens.

Generally your site moving in the SERPS after Seo is a good sign, it means google is dancing and testing you around, I find that I always end higher after a google dance.

I think you needed to prioritized new contents for your sites why don't you integrate a blog in your site with some related contents for it

Don't worry, a few of my sites bounce all over the place but if its a wordpress site use a great plugin call "slimstat" its free and you can download it from the wordpress depository. It measures real visitors to your site and even if your ranking seems to have fallen, you may find that your daily visitors hasn't.

Give it a week then decide your fate from there.

Normally, its Google shuffling the rankings to keep its algorithm "fresh"
