Repurposing Overseas SEO Workforce

Ok I started with this idea earlier but apparently that thread got tanked for unrelated reasons . So I thought I'd start my own on this topic that I'm finding intriguing lately. What to do with the surplus of unemployed SEO workers that were displaced by Penguin?

The link builders that were left jobless after the algo updates are everywhere. I get contacted privately 5 or 6 times a week by workers from India, Bangladesh and the Philippines that are looking for work. In this new content driven model they haven't found a resting place and I don't think they are going anywhere. I would love to hear everyone's ideas about a possible direction for them to take, new career opportunities. Putting aside any ill will, these are folks with families to support.

Most of them have value to offer; it's a tech savvy, educated work force with a strong work ethic and motivation to succeed economically. They have internet access and varying degrees of SEO knowledge. Their biggest obstacles are the English language barrier and perhaps stereotypes.

My ideas:

1) Many know how to scrape the web, I can find endless uses for that. What if they could find broken links on relevant sites for me? A big old list of those would be very valuable. Heck then they could send out form emails to the webmasters and get me some links.

2) Posting. We have endless discussions about which auto-posting software has the highest success rate. Can't beat a human for that as far as accuracy goes. Give them content, they post. What you lose in speed you make up for in success rate.

Just two of several ideas I have toyed with. Seems to me that there is a "two camps" mentality, would be nice to look at the big picture of the industry as a whole.

Any ideas?

I say the industry is better off without them, but I lack compassion and empathy, so what do i know?

    Damnit Mike lmao

This thread was my "giving back" thread.

Now you turned "warm and fuzzy" into what will no doubt become a 3 ring circus hahaha

Hey, wait a second... you need a VA don't you? I could swear I remember you needing a VA! Anyone interested in being Mike's VA should jump at this opportunity!

Anyone who is interested just reply to this thread and say "I'm Mike Friedman's new VA!" and tell us about yourself.

    lmao nicely played.

It occurs to me that there are several outsourcing sites that might be able to provide you with a larger pool of candidates. Just to be clear, you are willing to pay $8.00/hr for the right person right?

And you offer paid vacation, unlimited international calling plans for your team and "Free Jelly Bean Fridays" to reward your employees?

Link spamming is like a drug addiction, they don't give it up, they just learn to hide it better than last time the $hit hit the fan.

    * Now spam comes with New & Improved Diagrams!

    But wait, there's more!

Act now & we'll throw in two link spammers for the price of one!

    * Offer void where prohibited. Don't run with scissors.

Maybe i'm the last one on a dying ship. But seriously... go search any casino keyword... or any pharma keyword.... or any binary options and 2/3rd of Forex keywords...

If theres money, theres tonnes of spam, and if you look at the backlink profiles, its spam... im a bit tired of people saying blackhat doesnt work.

It's either spam, or blog networks, or paid links with anything competitive.

Its in plain site, it can work, im pretty good at it and i make good money doing it.

Again, im not endorsing or saying its a good long-term business traffic, im just saying it exists and as much as you hate it, it works.

Your comparing junk sites to junk sites, obviously someone has to rank #1 in organic SERPs, it's not like Google is going to serve up a blank page when someone searches for viagra or similar keywords.

*sigh* They can't want to be wrong though. I know... I'm playing the devil's advocate here but like that post you linked to yukon, that person took all that time to type that up... it has diagrams, people, DIAGRAMS. That means that that person really could believe they are being helpful.

I think there are two separate groups that are getting lumped together: true spam-lords (CTRTheme style) and those that are just falling behind/uninformed. The true spammers aren't stupid, in fact some of them are brilliant. They are waging an arms war on Google and are winning some days. Every time a door closes they bomb the building, rappel in from spamcopters and rapid fire everything that moves with new mutated spam. Those folks don't need any help, they are lifers and are making money if they are any good.

They are a completely different group from the Penguin refugees that just fell behind. I think those are salvageable with some training and a plan. Make no mistakes I'll make a buck along the way but it's win-win. People are indifferent about this but it's everybody's problem at the end of the day. This huge section of our industry is damaging to public trust/relations which we all know can be rocky as it is.

      That was awesome!

I totally agree...there are spammers who know what they are doing and working the system...and then there is everyone else who is trying and failing...or just failing.

Just like there are a few white/grey hat people who know what they are doing...and the rest of us are just trying to catch up.

That's the thing different strokes for different folks, different tactics for different niches but the folks trying to build backlinks through forum sigs... that's not real spam that's just sad. Ok ok it's spam in the sense that it's a waste of space but it's not profitable spam IMO.

All that wasted time/effort they could be doing web research for me, data entry, scraping, managing email campaigns (personalizing my templates, easy stuff) pretty much anything that doesn't involve writing English content. Some have good web design skills, they could build sites for me and plug my ready made content into them. So many ways they could be diversifying, instead of trying to beat the dead horse and going broke.
