Keyword Spy is a good tool. You can use it to find out what ads are working for your competitors in your niche. If a competitor has been running the same ad for 6 months, s/he must be making good money. You can create your ad along similar lines taking the guess work out of the equation and lot of $ on clicks.

You can also see the successful keywords that are performing well. You can use these keywords for your campaigns.

Tools like this have lot of data. You have to download the data and analyse it with a fine tooth comb to get the best results. But it cuts a lot of trial and effort which you would normally put into a paid search campaign.

Yes, I've used SpeedPPC and it does save quite a bit of time, however you've really got to look at the ads and ad text that it produces, spot check a few and make sure it produces expected data. SpeedPPC has gotten way better though.

Here's a tip: combine SpeedPPC with their HTACCESS hack (which you can find in their tutorials) to create web pages seeded with the same keyword as the ad group directing traffic to the web page. What that does is increase your page quality and relevance, sometimes lowers your bid price for keywords too when the page is more relevant - and of course can increase CTR and conversions too.
