Hello folks,

I am working on an Amazon Keyword Research Tool (I am a developer). I know that there are many of these tools around, but I have not been able to find one that does everything I would like to have in one product.

I wonder if I could ask you look at these features and comment/suggest ideas?

Basically, the way I see that type of keyword research is that it needs to start with Google keywords, not Amazon! The reason is that your clients are going to be coming from Google (if they are on Amazon they are not in your site).

Step 1 is to find long-tail Google keywords in your niche by scraping the Google auto-complete feature. That gives you an initial list of search terms. The user is then allowed to filter irrelevant terms to produce a smaller list.

Step 2 is to use the Google Keyword research tool to evaluate the competition, number of searches and approximate CPC (am I missing anything here?) for the keywords found in step 1. The results of step 2 are then presented to the user to filter the list of search terms for step 3.

Step 3 is to scrape the Amazon auto-complete for whatever categories are applicable using the filtered keywords in step 2. For each keyword in step 2 we will then collect anywhere from zero to ten Amazon search terms. The user can then filter these terms to eliminate irrelevant ones.

Step 4 is to go to Amazon and enter each one of the search terms (both Google and Amazon) in step 3 and collect the item information for the first X results.

The end product is an excel (.csv) file with the keywords and product information and optionally it will create the affiliate links that you can then copy and paste in your site.

The product is going to be free (I will monetize via content locking) and will work only in Windows machines. The idea is that the user needs to opt-in during the registration process (it builds my list) and the program will also present ads for other products, offers, etc. from my site in the splash screen.

Comments, please?
Thanks!

It needs to cross reference social buzz and social mentions. Or else it would be just like any other two-bit 'tool' out there...

Step 2 is to use the Google Keyword research tool to evaluate the competition
How will you evaluate the competition using the Google Keyword research tool?

Evaluating the competition is a huge process that involves many variables, the Google tool can not do that.

          Hi Stefan,

Thanks ... you are right, I should be more specific on this. What I am doing is entering the search words in the Google Keyword tool, grabbing the results and showing them to the user to help them filter their list for step 3, where we go to Amazon and scrape.

A full competition study would require a lot more ... you have to go and look at the first 10 results for each keyword, get PR and stats for each, etc. but that is not what this tool will do, at least in release 1 (got to keep the scope down to something doable).

I like that part a lot!

Some other stats worth to consider to add:

    - Amazon's sales rank
    - Amount of reviews

Both very good indicators to see how much wanted a product is.

This will really help in targeting keywords for Amazon only.

Hmmm... first of all, why are wanting CPC? Wouldn't this be used to find suitable products to sell as an affiliate?

As someone who has done plenty of Amazon Affiliate stuff... and created keyword "tools" for my own use, I can tell you right now that starting with Google may not provide you with the juiciest nuggets.

You may want to investigate other options for automatically grabbing products from maybe TradeKey or Alibaba and then feeding them into the Google Adsense Keyword Tool for more suggestions, or scraping Google Suggest with those words.

Another point: It seems to me that if there is a new product that has been released very recently, Google may not have any search history on that keyword. Thereby causing you to miss an opportunity to optimize your site for a keyword before all the other SEOs jump on the bandwagon. Just a thought.
