Hey guys,

I was wondering is any of you have ranked some really tough keywords manually? I'm not talking about such keywords like porn, sex, casino or payday loans n stuff, but such med-high competition keywords that get over 30k exact searches per month and folks who rank nr1 have around ~100 contextual backlinks(PR N/A to PR3) with 4-5 year old domain.

Why I'm asking this is because I'm planning to rank those sites manually... different SEO service providers have said that it's tough keyword to go (ask $300 to $700 p/m), but I feel it's extremely profitable (trending as well).

Why I'm doing this manually? Well mostly because this is niche where you can simply go and ask links from different webmasters. I'm not planning to use any paid services or private networks this time (only few PR4-PR6 sites that I have my own) because I can't really let my "hard work" go flush down the toilet when my SEO provider private network goes deindexed.

My strategy is quite simple actually:
Send huge load of e-mails on daily basis
Write few high quality guestposts a week

So, is any of you taken this route? Have you failed, have you succeeded?

HAHAHAAH....Well I'm doing it manually right now as we speak for the company I work for. I am their ONLY link builder. And it is a LOT of work. But I get paid well so I don't mind it. But this is what we do, coming from a 9-5 type of job...manually.

I can tell you 4 weeks in, and I'm still going through a TON of links using majesticseo. Basic stuff, excel spreadsheet and targeting high PR sites with a good trust flow and I jot it all down. And the main thing is finding our competitors links and how are they placed. Obviously none of them are comments. Most if not all, are either contextual or some type of sponsored / giveaway/ banner.

I really feel that reaching out to these relevant blog owners/site owners and working out a deal to have your link on their site and gaining a relationship is the way to go.....Manually.

It's the best way to go, you get a link & most likely relevant same niche traffic at the same time.

The ultimate goal is niche traffic.

I know how you feel as I'm doing almost the same stuff right now. Using ahrefs + opensiteexplorer to find competitor links, using google search to find relevant blog posts/resources etc.

9-5 job might look frustrating, but at least you are getting tonloads of experience and after a year you can feel free to call yourself as a "seo expert", not some guy who build links through senukex and calls himself as "best seo service provider in india"

Do you have any tips for creating a relationships?

The best way you need to find the links back of your competitors, and try to place in right way. Just look how they are doing this, becouse if work for them it will work also for you.

Wow I have only ranked quickly for low competition search terms. Mid is very hard even with a lot of effort, it takes a lot more time.

But how will sending lots of emails on a daily basis help to improve your SEO? I don't understand that.

I think you will need more than a few high quality guest posts a week. Maybe a fair amount of high quality guest posts a DAY will work. Cheers.

Yes, I've done it...you can ask my mom.

But seriously, manual is the way to go. And this is coming from someone that used to spam the hell out of his sites.

    But I've seen the light...

    The two-step plan you have:
Send huge load of e-mails on daily basis
Write few high quality guestposts a week

Is pretty solid. I've been doing a lot of email outreach lately with the help of a staffer and it's been going amazingly well.

However, you can't just send emails like this and expect to get results:

    "hi,

I love your website. I want link. Please link to my site.

    Thank you,
    Me"

You need to go kung-fu, black belt email outreach style.

    That means:
    1. You need an awesome site/awesome piece of content to share (linkable assets)
    2. You need a professional site design. No one's going to link to a site with a free wordpress theme
    3. You need to personalize your emails using tested scripts. I'm getting about a 15% success rate right now because I go the extra mile with personalization.

    Good luck.

I'm at the same phase right now... Learning every day to write better scripts. However, my successrate is a bit lower.

Then you'll get to 15% eventually.

One important tip is to make sure you're leveraging your best content. Asking for a homepage link usually doesn't work.

And broken link building...but that's another story altogether.
