1st page of Google...Please explain

I am new to all of this but my business is expanding and its time to venture into the online world. Everywhere I look I see an offer being advertised to "get you on the first page of google" for any keyword you like. There are approx. 10 results shown on the first page of google search results so what happens if 20 people buy the same service for a common keyword of....lets say, welders. What happens then??? Are these methods usually black hat or white hat? Thanks guys, glad to be a member!

    If it sounds to good to be true... Also just because they're showing photos has little relevance to the legitimacy of their claims. Otherwise, wouldn't they just build their own content for keywords like "internet marketing" "make money online" "lose weight" and so on?

    Try digging up some reviews about the service before you buy, especially in this day and age.

    Their are local level seo companies ie. fringelocal.com and regional level seo companies. If you opt for a regional placement, make sure the seo company has a "paid for performance" option available.

    Anythign that advertise's first page of google for any keyword is a complete scam. When you buy into a WSO make sure that you read a few reviews. These methods are usually Blackhat as well. Dont get me wrong though there are a few decent blackhat SEO services but just make sure that you understand you are getting befoer you buy into anyhting like it.

    if 10 people buying same service with same keyword. << you will buy again and Again.

    You can get onto the first page of Google fairly easy as long as your not competing for high competitive keywords. "Welders" is too generic and very competitive since this keyword is locally searched 450,000+ a month. You'll have a better chance on a long tail keyword like "boston custom welders" as long as your website is optimized and the search engines have no issues with indexing your website. Creating a Youtube video on a low competitive keyword can also help you rank on the first page of Google. Use the free Google Adwords Keyword Tool to figure out how competitive your keywords are in your area and see what is being searched.

    Guaranteeing first page results is pretty difficult since Penguin. There are so many variables now that are often times outside the control of the SEO company. Look at reviews, and read some of the forum members past posts/threads to see if they are just a marketer or actually sound like they know what they are talking about in regards to SEO.

    If you want to outsource SEO you basically have to options:

    1. Go with a trusted brand with a reputation for excellence (singlegrain, distilled etc.).
    2. Learn SEO yourself and outsource the work.

    If you hire someone to "get you first page rankings" or "build backlinks" you're going to be in a world of hurt.
