Was just looking to get some of the experts advice on what the best strategy's are for backlinking after all the updates in Google's Algorithm?

Do you use Blog Networks and then software to juice them up a bit more, do forum backlinks, blog commenting, article posting ect...

Look forward to seeing what others are doing now a days

Cheers,
Brad

I start out with blog commenting by contributing something actually valuable to a blog in my niche. Then get a few links from a quality blog network and see where it takes me in the SERPs.

Meanwhile I'm adding fresh, quality content and getting my internal linking sorted. Then depending on where I am in the SERPs I'll get a few more blog network links.

I also try to keep my anchor text varied and go easy on the exact match. Just one strategy but it does fine even after all these updates.

    Basically backlinking in 2013=

Creating great content + leveraging that content for links.

That can be in the form of posting awesome stuff on your blog and getting it in front of as many people as possible or sending people great content in the form of a guest post.

Let me save you a lot of wasted time: don't bother with blog comments, article directories, web 2.0s and any other spammy stuff. There are people here that swear by it, but in my experience it doesn't do diddly over the long-term.

its really depends on what you classify as spammy...some think any time you use any kind of tool that its gonna be spammy, which is the furthest thing from the truth. The tool will produce spammy stuff only if you tell it to...

This is what I do as well, and rarely ever use my keywords as the anchor text on my Tier 1, which is "ALL" manually built . I anchor text all my keywords on the tier 2 network I create and this is where the software comes in to play for me.

Just gotta think how someone else would normally link back to your site, and have a wide variety. All will look more natural this way.

I don't backlink at all. I'm ranking a few of my blogs for some extremely competitive keywords that get over 30K Monthly ESLV - Haven't "built" 1 link. Just posted killer content and given my audience the tools to share.

Also done some guest posting on related blogs, but never with keywords pointing back other than the name of my blog.

    Has worked wonders.

You never build a backlink and still you do guest postings, so you don't have backlinks pointing back to your site when you guest post?

It seems a bit unbelievable for me that you rank for a 30K volume keyword with guest postings with no links in them...

        ON-SITE Optimization is KING!

If you're not ranking within the top 50 results in Google for your targeted keyword(s) within two weeks of creating your site and its content, then you're not optimizing the on-site crap right.

I've had several sites rank within the top 3 within two weeks of creation simply based on the on-site optimization and ZERO backlinks... And yes competition is strong.

Google has been getting away from over optimized anchors (penguin) and is focusing on quality content, but Google does like spammy percentages like 7% - 9% keyword density... Bing likes it too Lol! :p

After you let your site settle - get a backlinks package ($100+) for some blog comments, web 2.0's, social media, etc. Yeah, yeah they're bad... But you still need a mix of anchors pointing at your site regardless.

Make a Facebook page for your site and a Twitter account for your site (maybe LinkedIn) and do some of your own Social posting. Remember to use the right #HASHTAGS when you make Twitter posts so people find your site/content.

        CHEERS!

Absolutely quality not quantity and the quality extents to content (unique and not spun) as well, at all levels IMO.

If you really want to have a long lasting effect build links that you own and can have around for a long time. Do something that will last many years. Meaning post on sites that won't be taken down in a year so build links on more stable domain names. I would stick to the top sites in each genre such as your site's niche, social sites, business directories, press release sites, blog sites... and any article posting you do I think is best done on the blog sites which allow you to use authorship. Especially if you are building original content you are going to want to claim this content as your own and belonging to your domain.

Automate, well written content with lots of stylistic elements (images, video, h2s, bolds, bullets, etc.) in the content, with long detailed meta info as well.

Put links on sites that have these same attributes in your niche.^^

And make sure all sites/links remain actively updated. (No Stale web2 pyramids, blog comments, or anything else that is not being constantly updated, with stylistic well written content.)

Guest blogging is maybe the most recommended way to get high quality backlinks (on related and high authority blogs!) -> Google wants to see backlinks INSIDE an article! A content of at least 300-400 words is recommended!

Follow internal SEO practices to make sure it is found and sees the light of day. Take the time to make it so compelling that people talk about it and share it."

Do you really think this kind of packages still works? The sites in those lists are already blasted with thousands of spam links already. It was a good method to get ranking in earlier days. I would suggest you to forget these packages.

Steady income of links, you don't need many of them but you must watch out for your anchor text optimization. Then you can build hundreds of links to those links to power them up
This and optimization of website will get you rankings but you must be patient.

We build backlinks coming from Social Media, Guest Post, Article Submissions, High PR and Private network etcs. Most importantly is the quality of the backlink. A tiered structure works as well.
