Sharing my link building experience after 1 month at work

Hey guys, so I just want to share a couple of things that I learned working for a CLOTHING company as a LINK builder.

It's been a month now and I've been bombarded with tons of work. At the same time I love it. I'm learning a lot of stuff. Moreso, I think I did learn it here on the warriorforum but I disregarded it because I wanted to go black hat all the way like how a lot of us on the forum want to do.

I like my boss a lot (the director of SEO), and he knows his stuff.

Anyways...just giving my 2 cents. Whenever you build your websites/online business, definitely try to stay organized. Once your business grows (and it's crazy this company generates some CRAZY figures every week), you want to have that excel sheet up and just stay organized. I never used excel as frequent as now .

There are about 200 employees here. Engineers, buyers, models, photographers, designers, marketing team, etc. etc.

As far as SEO goes, we mainly focus on link outreach. Where we build a relationship with site owners that have anywhere from a PR 3 and above and try to work something out. Whether it be a sponsored ad, giveaway, etc. etc.

We love majesticseo. We analyze our competitors, and we see where they're getting their backlinks from. We focus on the TRUST FLOW and the PR of a site. Also it's relevancy. And that's mainly what we do as far as ranking specific keywords.

I was just given access to Google Analytics. My gosh. The traffic is insane. I get lost when there's over 100,000 pages lol.

Also, we heavily focus on Google Webmaster tools. I'm starting to realize that this tool is super effective. Got to look at the crawl errors every day and what not.

Anyways long story short, what I'm getting out of this job is that the smallest things matter and also doing things that we've been told to do that requires a lot of work MATTERS.

I've spent a good 3 weeks just researching for links. And I've found ways to become efficient with it, but it's important that we don't get "shitty" links.

Whenever we find shitty links that's linking to our site, we jot it down so we can disavow them.

I love this job, and the warriorforum basically lead me to this job. It's crazy how people quit their 9-5's to do their own business. For me, I want a 9-5 to make more capital and to do business at the same time . This company is great. They're like Google where they literally take care of their employees.

Anyways, peace.

Good to get an insiders view of how a big company does SEO! I personally think link outreach will be the future of SEO and people should start doing it sooner rather than later. I love what I do too and don't see myself leaving my day job, I just use my online income to compliment my offline one

P.S I read a thread a while back where you talk about having success with amazon, how's that going for you?

Hey buddy, my Amazon sites kinda fell off and I think it's just cause I've been so busy with my new job. I'm focusing on that as of now, but I'll get back to my Amazon sites when I manage my time properly. The strat that I used worked, it's just I've been so busy as of late

Does that just mean that your sites lost their page 1 rankings for low comp keywords? Not great if it's a no link-building strategy. When was the last time you updated the sites?

I haven't updated the site in weeks. I haven't really had time to do work just cause of this new job. So I transitioned to PPC. At the same time, I'm just mapping everything and trying to settle in again so I can have time for myself to do my own sites.

Msaeed link outreach is not the future of SEO. Its how SEO is done in the greater SEO world and has been for many years. Step outside of places like WF, TP and Black H world and mention Senuke, Magic submitter, Best Spinner , captcha breakers and proxies and they will wonder what rock you just crawled from under.

Lol what I meant was that link outreach is one of the best long term methods you can use. Yes, I'm aware that this is a method used by many companies and has been used by many in the past and will be used by many in the future.

We contact them first. But if no response, we disavow them.

I'm just sharing everything from a multi-million dollar company. This isn't an SEO company first of all BUT there is a marketing team with an SEO team if that makes sense.

It's a great opportunity, as I'm learning more and more every day. And the pay is nice . Great money that I can put back into my business.

Seriously though link outreach is the best. But I could see why a lot of us affiliates get into private networks or buying links etc. etc.

Definitely check Google Webmaster Tools! That thing is a beauty .

Here's the thing folks. The great thing about working here I can learn both ends. Things I learn from the WF and things I can learn from a company.

I can figure out all the BS that's around and things that I agree on. Again, based on my experience and opinion. From the looks of it, there are a lot of BS info and BSers just trying to take your/our money here in the forum.

People claim "I make thousands of dollars blah bla hblah a month." People claim "I'm this I'm that." Simple NEWBIE marketing tactics. And I just hope that everyone else is aware of that. But it's so tempting since A LOT of people want to make A LOT of $$, that they'll do whatever it takes by learning some "guru" that really doesn't know his/her craft.

WORK HARD folks and you will be rewarded!

Glad things are going well on the 9-5, I guess you realize that none of the quality link building really matters unless the site/business your building the links for is quality on it's own which it sounds like your working for a real business. What I'm getting at is, in comparison a fake Amazon review site (doorway to Amazon) would be near impossible to persuade same niche sites (quality sites) to link to your own site/pages.

The sites speak for themselves, it takes maybe a few seconds to land on a page & make a decision If it's a useful site & by useful I don't mean driving traffic away from your own site just to make an affiliate sale. We're all in it for the money, but in order to keep traffic coming back (more money), the site has to be useful & stand on it's own.

One time conversions are fine, but that equals non-stop work doing the same things every single day. IMO unless it's a one time service type site, the goal should be to keep traffic coming back as often as possible. A lot of times traffic doesn't convert on the first visit until after they do their own research online. When traffic consistently finds brand awareness/niche authority for your site, they're more likely to buy.

Don't get me wrong, a business is non-stop work, but it's so much easier to make a sale when traffic already knows/trust the site.

Yeah we avoid any automated program. Any senuke/magic submitter/any black hat we avoid completely.

Any crappy links we let the owner know to get rid of it.

Company has been around for 10 years. We only only target PR 3 and above well known fashion bloggers.

After all it's just a job and you are a full time link-builder for that company. It's fine if it works for you and the company you do it for.
But SEO is also business and the automation is the key to offer lower prices to smaller business. Also if you are doing it for many sites there is no way you can do it like this. Both of those methods work and it's most a matter of company's budget for which will they go.

So umm why does anyone NEED to have many sites? Sorry but the more sites you have does not relate to the more money you make but ahem it does relate to the garbageness of each one.

P.S. Your point about small business is false. REAL small businesses need quality links just as much and automation alone does not provide them.

Not to say that doing the "small" way of SEO doesn't lead to profits.

I mean, building your own small authority sites and using blog networks to rank them and stuff.

That's interesting though, i've always wanted to learn how those big seo companies work. Did you already have a degree to get a job there? I've always wanted to work for a place like that.

Yeah I have my degree in communications. Remember, this company isn't an SEO company. It's a fashion/clothing company that utilizes SEO. But overall, it is INTERNET MARKETING. With e-mail team, social media, SEO, PPC , engineers, etc. etc. Along with Public relations, events, etc.

Nice post GG. i was just curious to know how much do you pay for links. i mean as you said you look out for blogs and try to make a deal, how much are you willing to pay for PR-3 or above links? or what kind of offer do you make to the site owner?

First of all thanks for sharing.

Well, bin there done that, this is how big companies do their link building, they have the budget to buy pr3/4/5 etc quality links. And their sales can justify the cost of buying links that a random warrior could not afford.

So it's wrong to compare big budget "strategy" with others strategies like tier 1,2,3 etc. It's easy to email someone and ask them to sell a bl, but it's not easy to build a high quality blog network.

It's not wrong to compare big budget "strategy". It's however YOU want to build your business. There you go, "It's easy to email someone and ask them for a bl" but how many people do it? And we don't build a blog network. We just get our links from different site owners. I never said we're spending $$. All I said is that PPC was spending 31k.

Big company small company doesn't matter. All I'm doing is sharing my experience that you can utilize in however the hell you want.

I'm loving SEO for business. It's so much easier. One client approached me for help. They already have a PR3 domain so that took care of a lot at my end.

All I had to do was optimize the ranking pages and buy a few niche related PR3/4 links. I checked out the backlinks of my client's competitors and I went ahead and bought the SAME links.

Then I waited a few days for indexing and Bob's your uncle. He's now ranking #1 for his keyword and I'm raking it in.

Sounds strange but with local SEO it's easier to rank pages than to get past the "gatekeeper".

I love SEO For business and I love SEO as a JOB. I LOVE SEO PERIOD. 24/7. This is what I do. I can implement so many things for work and business. It doesn't matter, I'm just glad I'm exposed to SEO night in and night out.

At the same time, I have my own time for myself such as going to car meets, drinking with my friends, hanging out with my gf, etc.

Other than that, SEO BUSINESS SEO WORK. But not even SEO. INTERNET MARKETING period.

Edit: I don't care what's easier. I care about growing and going above and beyond my knowledge and dominating as much as I can in the future.

Wanna drop me a PM with that list

Also - what Yukon says about having a REAL business. It's spewed ad infinitum, but you really are gonna struggle getting those quality links, brand awareness and getting that word-of-mouth marketing machine off the ground without that. Way too easy to spot a 2 bit site attempting to rank for decent keywords when it's an obvious low quality doorway page with affiliate links and offering nothing to the niche but thin pages or spewed, re-hashed garbage.
