Look At This Shady Adwords Technique

Hey all

I came across the weirdest adwords ads today. I was checking rankings for some old product reviews I did and I decided to click through one of the adwords ads because the display url looked like some form of authority site.

One of the keywords I used was "google payload review" and one of the adwords ads belongs to "www.ScamReviewTeam.com".

You won't believe their landing page.
http://anonym.to?http://tinyurl.com/cb2dpc [MODS, I changed the link now.]

Have a look at the page. It's dull and ugly and has NO link to google payload.
How come?

Closer inspection revealed that this page was cookie stuffing Google payload.

Is this advertiser making money with this technique?
Chances are pretty good he is doing well (considering he/she is doing this for various products) due to the following reasons:

1. Super fast loading page
2. Very keyword relevant
3. ZERO affiliate links
4. All the necessary pages to get a high quality score.
5. Main domain has inbound links and not banned
6. Ad copy is very relevant

This person is definitely paying minimum bid.

He is capitalizing on the fact that most of the merchants he/she is promoting are lying at the #1 spot in the organic serp results. That way, the visitor gets cookie stuffed, hits the back button and then goes to the right url.

He/she also has several ads of the same nature for the same keywords, just different domains. So even if they hit the back button and go to the second ad, they get stuffed again.

Pretty shady hey?

Even though it's shady, I must say...it's pretty smart.
I'm just wondering how the Adwords review team can pass such a junk page!??

Regards,
Reinhardt

You are right something is weird with that domain... I did a random search for an affiliate product and that domain showed up in one of the ads... The thing that was weird was his display url and his destination url was completely different, how did he manage to do that? I thought it was impossible?

And please explain to me what cookie stuffing is exactly, I have a fair idea but I'm not 100% what he does by cookie stuffing everyone

I don't know what is going on with these mods but they are pretty irritating.
Mods, if let the link run through anonymous.to can I post it here? That way the owner of the domain won't know where the "views" are coming from.

Ok mods I'm going to try this again.
This time I'm coding the link with anonym.to along with tinyurl which makes it impossible for the owner of the site to know. So be nice please.

anytime you use google ppc all is fair in love and war. If you do it wrong, Google has no problem draining your bank account. If Google does it wrong then you should have no problem draining theirs. Learn the rules of the game and then learn how to manipulate them.

        An adwords insider?

NOW THIS IS REALLY STARTING to annoy me.

Search "Chris Rempel" there it is again the ad.. Display URL scamreviewteam.com

Destination URL, completely different and an Affiliate link.

How do they get aaway with this?
        Hi Intrepreneur,

This can easily be done by cloaking. While cloaking Google is against TOS, it generally requires a manual verification. All it takes is one person reporting the abuse to Google and the ad will be disapproved.

          Hi Intrepreneur,

"Cloaking refers to the practice of presenting different content or URLs to users and search engines." Google's bots see a completely different URL than regular visitors, thus it appears to Google that the display URL domain matches the landing page while you are redirected to a completely different page.

You didn't read my posts correctly. I also posted a url to a image capture I did of how the cloaked page looks. For some reason my firefox simply stops loading the page before the redirect happens.

Intrepreneur, I just checked....the display url's domain is the same one as the destination.

This guy is using MAJOR blackhat techniques. He is using content cloaking!
This is what my firefox shows:

    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/1e62b2aa51.jpg

But my Internet explorer redirects me straight to the merchant's site!
