SEo guys, .com or .is

Hi guys and girls,

I am planing on starting few tourist related directory sites and I am planing to have them with a keyword related domain names, but I am not sure if I should have the .com or the .is

the directories will all be in English an with English domain names.

I can get the domain names in both .is and .com but the .is cost much more.

I would definitely go with the .com if it's a keyword rich domain. I don't see many .is domains ranking very well lately.

  Becouse .is is from Iceland, doesn't Google give the .is result more for queries that come from Icelandic Ip's

Snappinn, yes, in that case if the site is going to target users from Iceland then you would want to use a .is domain name. Concentrate on getting links from other Iceland sites. You should also have an address/contact page that shows that your business is in Iceland, also.

  That is what I thought and because I will be targeting people out side of Iceland that are planing to travel to Iceland I will have the .com,

I have travel website that is targeting visitor outside of iceland and I did select .com

  You want the real answer? Any domain will do if your site answers
  people questions. And, contrary to popular belief, if you are in
  the US and want info on visiting a country, chances are, websites
  with the TLD from those countries will readily be in SERPs all
  over the world. Like doing a search for airport in iceland will
  almost assure that a .is site will be in serps. I just did and
  there's 3 for me.
  
  I can't help but offer that not many people are visiting iceland,
  and I'll bet they are mostly from northern europe. So, I might
  do a bit of research and find out what country sends the most
  tourists to iceland. Then make a site with tld from and hosted
  by that country or region.

if you want to target visitors only from iceland than you can go for .is else .com is the best..

If you have a TLD of .com (or .org and .net) or any domain that is not that country specific, there is a better chance of ranking to territories. Also, providing relevant content is one of the most important factors in generating targeted traffic. Your content should be informative, accurate, readable and understandable to the audience.
