It will help, but you'll need a good offpage seo campaign going as well.

It also depends on keywords, on-page optimization ability, if you are using some low competitive keywords then they would rank without links as well... however you have to work on your site continuously for better result, I would say..

Without knowing anymore about your site and the keywords its ranking for its difficult to say. In my experience, I have never ranked a page at #1 without backlinks.

It depends on your competition. Aside from doing on-page, also do off-page optimization by having diverse link profile and creating links from high authority domains, i.e. web 2.0s, wiki, press release, blog posts, video, document sharing, etc. Also make sure to diversify your keywords to avoid overoptimization.

It more important to have quality content in the website and ensure to have blog for the same with latest udpates, apart from this it is important to perform offsite activities that includes article submission, press release submission, web 2.0 submission, forums on regular basis to great results for the website.

Strong on-page SEO does help but it's not enough on its own unless you're targeting a keyword which has zero competition.

Exactly no competition from the keyword you could probably do it.

Like the funny thing that I've seen some people do in this section of the WF where they type a random phrase like "Mastering The Broad Spectrum of Training Roosters to Feed Your Mother" then wait a little bit and that phrase makes this thread number 1 Oh Boy

If your inter-linking and meta data is set up properly, it's surely a huge step in the right direction. However, when it comes to ranking on page 1 of Google, there are quite a few factors at play. Content and videos are a great start, and it might do the trick all by itself for micro niches or long-tail keywords, but if you're looking to rank for something like "Buy Jewelry Online", -you'll need to go the extra mile I'm afraid.

I don't know of any high end jewelry site that cares a rip about
youtube videos. Videos as TV commercials, maybe. Amazon,
macys, ebay, tiffany, etc. are not doing youtube, nor writing
content. They don't care about meta tags(neither should you),
backlink idiocy, and all the other nonsense.

Do you have a real business, or what?

The only answer, to be honest, is that it depends on your competition and the keywords you are trying to rank for. You need to present to us background info in regards to subject matter and then offer up some competetive intel for what you are trying to rank. ONLY then will somebody experienced tell whether you have a shot in ranking purely on content alone.

But Andy is right, the general principal rule of thumb is that it won't help on its own.
