This definitely works but the problem is how do you monetize that traffic? Just because somebody finds your post funny doesn't mean that they will buy from you.

Well in this case suppose somebody visits the site and sees a bunch of comments on the battle between Dexter Morgan and Hannibal Lecter . You can actually link to their movies and tv shows on Amazon.

The audience for this type of site would most likely be ages 12 to 35, comic book geeks, tv show fans, movie buffs etc. Each fan base can be marketed to individually. Gamefly for gamers, Netflix for movie buffs and Adsense for comic book guys.

There are a bunch of ways to make money other than the ones I listed, get enough traffic and you can sale advertising space. Believe me if done correctly this site would be a goldmine.

...also, useful, free, & controversy generates traffic/sharing.

Controversy example, If I started a new forum thread right now saying how keyword stuffing meta keyword tags ranked a page #1 for the keyword auto insurance, everyone & their brother would be doing a Google search for the keyword auto insurance & then go back to the forum thread & argue about the page not ranking because of meta keywords.

That's called stirring the pot to generate traffic.

Anything outrageous will get peoples attention, like the TV folks claiming how they make millions of dollars doing xyz, where in reality the money is made from the infomercial sales, lol.

That's the way a lot of people make their money, even offline, BS & hype is big money.

Go buy a new car, I guarantee no matter which car lot you go to will have the best car money can buy, they'll even take your old car as a trade in for $500 off the overpriced new car (then turn around & sell the used car for $5,000, lol).

Nest it seems like you've found a passion that may be worth pursuing. You have all of the right ingredients to make something big and pursue it long term. I say create a roadmap and go after it if you're sure about the market.

You can begin now by targeting niche traffic through social media. Build up a following by sharing interesting stuff your audience would like. Because of the content I can see this working REALLY well on Tumblr. This is what i do (inspiration niche):

-Create a few niche related tumblrs.
-Search for your niche tags and begin adding posts to your que.
-Every day, log in and follow 200 users(there's a really easy way to do this). For every 200 that you add roughly 30% will follow back, you'll also get more followers from people visiting your pages and rebloging your stuff. You can add your facebook url to the source which will send the traffic from tumblr to your facebook page so you can gain a following there as well. This has creates a huge snowball effect.

Once you've got the traffic, get on the monetization. Reinvest the money into a decent artist/illustrator and keep expanding.

I know this may sound a bit cliche, but where there's a will there's a way.

Agreed. There's ALWAYS a way. It sounds like you've (nest) got every excuse you need to NOT follow your passion. Oh well, I guess somebody else will.

Not saying what you're currently working on is a bad idea, but I hope you're as passionate about that as your dream you just gave up on.

Not saying what you're currently working on is a bad idea, but I hope you're as passionate about that as your dream you just gave up on.

I haven't given up on this idea, but I'm currently invested in another idea that I am equally as passionate about. This just isn't the time.

Kickstarter is an illusion, the reason they show so many successful people is, they dump/delete all the failures (seriously). No doubt some folks are making good money on Kickstarter but I'm sure it's only a small percentage of the submissions.

Engaging and funny is good. But you also must be in a niche in which people have a "want" if you plan to monetize the website. Here is my example. The "want" is very evident in weight loss, because people "want" to loose weight. Then being engaging and funny can work well to getting sales.

There is a market for ancient comic books, perhaps he could setup a marketplace for that. Remains a bit of a small market, unless you become THE authority on the topic.

  You got that right, I look into animation cost briefly and the estimates were in the 5 figure range for just 1 minute of animation. It would probably be more cost effective to create live videos like this one:

  As I said before I'm working on another project, I don't have anytime to look into these matters any further at the present time, but if nobody else
  creates a site like this by the time I'm done working on my current project I'll do it myself. But this is not some Amazon review site or 5 page EMD.
  
  This is what the senior members mean when they say create a "REAL SITE". Some may say I have a passion for this, and I do. But now is just not the time. One of my biggest flaws in the past was jumping from idea to idea, the problem with that is you never finish what you started.
  
  I can't work on this until I finish what I started with my current project and that won't be anytime soon.
  
  Edit: I'm not worried about sharing my idea only to have it stolen for a number of reasons. The biggest is people here like to read, read, and read some more without actually doing anything, another is I already know what I would want it to look like, a knockoff wouldn't beat me.
  
  I have 10 other ideas that are equally as good as this one so even if somebody beats me to this I have others. But like I said, it's best to stick to just one idea at a time. I recently got my commercial activity licence and created a LLC, made business bank account and create a website that will combine online and offline marketing to help small businesses. That's why you don't see me here, I been so busy I haven't had time to post.

My son showed me this video a couple days ago and he loved it for simple fact that you have to make choices, there may be other vids like this on youtube but this is the first time I come across a interactive video.

Interactive zombie movie adventure - DELIVER ME...

Skip to the end if you like because that's where it get's interesting. The main character lives or dies based on which option you choose, I thought that was really cool and it get's people to interact with the video.

One thing I did notice is the number of views goes down drastically as you get to the other related video clips, I think people got tired of playing, so they probably would have done better to have kept it short.

Social is the present and future, there may be more money to be made in things that are socially popular than in selling a 300 dollar printer on Amazon. Even though all my examples have been videos there are clever ways you can do the same on content based websites.

Its time to unmask the deception that has been going on for years.

Clark Kent was not made up to protect his family and identity but because Superman is a fraud. IF he really could move as fast as he tries to let on no one would be able to hit him. Hulk swings a punch and gets nothing but air. Truth is he is just a Flash wannabe. Came from Krypton saw how fast flash could move and got super power envy. It happens. Man of Steel turned green like Kryptonite with Envy and lied about the speed thing (only fast when flying)

I can hear all the SM fanboys now objecting. Then let me ask you

How often do you see the Flash in a fist fight? Take a minute to think about it. Ask yourself .........why?

I'd make up the Kent character to hide too. As for Hulk and Mr Banner. How many times has he changed into the green beast and still can't buy or make pants that fit? The guy is just ghetto. Even the fashion police would want to smack him down. Its a wonder he ever changes back because those pants squeezin on me would keep me permanently angry (unless he's normally very very small in that area which might explain the anger management issues to begin with).

Not to take the thread off course but your right, I have never seen Superman use all his powers at once and it pisses me off lol. Like you said, he should just use his super speed to dodge any blows coming his way, than he also neglects to use heat vision, flight, and super breath which should be able to freeze Hulk long enough for Superman to punch his lights out.

But you see what I'm talking about, see how the discussions would be if I made that site, this topic stirs feeling, enough to get likes, links and shares. I would love for some of the big comic book companies to make this site. With that kind of funding it would be totally awesome dude lol.
