I was just messing about today and searched "make money online". The top result was this video

I wondered how it could be top when it was only uploaded recently (18th March) to be exact.

In AHREFS he has 40k spam links going to the site all of which were built over a 2 week period.

How?

I can't see it in top 10, neither in top 30.
Anyhow, YT is carrying some "authority" that's why it's easier to rank videos. You can spam more out of it. I think it's only matter of time when this strategy will be history. Furthermore, you only need few "reports" from your competitors and you are gone for good.

I'm not so sure about this. Yes, Google/YouTube might make it harder to rank videos but why wouldn't the company promote it's own brand (YouTube) in the SERPs?

Google is promoting more and more ad space for it's videos so I doubt it would unnecessarily risk slapping YouTube from search results. A crap video with rubbish content is still eyeballs and $$$$ for the organisation.

In fact I think you will see alot more YouTube videos in the SERPs. I recently read an article about this dubstep artist in the UK (I can't remember her name!). Her YouTube channel was getting insane views, went viral, and she was quickly signed up Lady Gaga's PR company. Instead of promoting this artist down mainstream channels, the PR company are expanding her YouTube following and crushing it with ad revenue.

Thats not proof that spam links work. Thats proof that Google likes to rank their own properties. not surprising in the least.

    Google algorithm fail again..

Doesn't matter, Google/Youtube is cancelling out most of that Google search traffic by forcing viewers to have a Youtube account.

Traffic would most likely pick a relevant video in the Youtube right sidebar, where they don't have to login to a Youtube account.

    Good luck with that.

The last time I checked, YouTube had something like 1 trillion views. I don't see any reason why they would want to change that and make videos less accessible by enforcing viewers to sign up for an account.

Either way, that's exactly what Google/Youtube did in OPs ranked video page.

Not everyone has/wants a Google account & there's millions of other videos that don't require an account just to watch videos, that was my point in my last comment. IMO that ranked video is only sending traffic to the Youtube sidebar videos, not the ranked video.

Spam still works. The usual SERPs are still dominated by spammed to death properties. And yes, YouTube videos are easy to rank, as are many web 2.0s and other high authority properties.
