Out of curiosity does the number of comments a youtube video receives influence SEO? If so, how heavily are comments weighted as a ranking factor?

Thanks

My best guess would be that it doesn't hurt because it indicates viral-ness & popularity. In my opinion, good backlinks/bookmarks, on page SEO, and views would be stronger ranking factors.

Awesome question though. Anybody else have any experience with this?

I do NOT think that the number of comments will help you get a better ranking for Youtube, it is also the SEO you do for the video.. Comments only help increase easily your views (if people love it, they will SHARE it and comment i!)

If any topic has lots of discussion, comment with deeply explained then I would like to say its a best topic even video and picture (infographic/website image) title which is visible lots of search engine by lots of keywords.

So think it first, I need search visibility to traffic my blog in the terms of SEO comments.

    IMO, Yes & No.

Comments defiantly show up in the Google Cache (text version) so Googles search algo. is defiantly looking at those plain text comments. I think that would help pick up a wide variety of longtail keyword phrases.

The max. number of comments shown on the Google Cache (text version) is 10 comments, so having 100 is useless because those extra 90 comments would be hidden from Googles search algo. behind the comments Show more link at the bottom of the 10 comments on the video page.

Then you have to factor in the fact that a lot of YT videos are hit with troll comments (parental keyword filter on organic SERPs?).

Also factor in that unless your monetizing directly on YT, there's a lot of unnecessary competition in the right YT sidebar (is it worth ranking a page you don't own?).

    Example:
Notice how many/few comments are on the Cache (text version) page.

Also consider the fact that you could turn off comments/trolls & target the same/more longtail keywords from simply creating a longer laser targeted video description (keywords).

As far as ranking in YouTube itself? I think so. But the Google results? I don't think it plays much of a role. (keywords in your title, description, tags, and filename are much more important.)
