Best Placement For Backlink?

I've got a quick question for you guys having to do with the optimal placement for a backlink.

Ok, say I've created a fresh Blogger blog and then load it up with 5 unique articles. Now, the primary focus of this blog is to get a relevant backlink to my main niche site.

Do I a) place an anchored backlink in the footer or do I b) place an anchored backlink in a single post.

The reason I ask is because I remember hearing that site wide links aren't useful or something to that degree and as far as I know a footer link or a link in the sidebar is considered site wide.

Any clarification on the topic is much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Max,

The first rule of SEO is that search engines rank pages not sites.

I would recommend that you use in-line links in your posts. That way you can write as many different posts as you want, each targeting a specific keyword and linking to the most relevant page on your main website.

This approach will help you to rank for numerous keywords and will be more effective because you can use laser targeted relevance for each link.

Thanks for the response dburk, I appreciate it.

So, you are saying that if I have a PR 2 content site and would like to create a relevant backlink to my main site I should do so in a post rather than in the footer?

You see, this is where I am a bit confused because I don't see how a link from a PR 0 page would be better than a PR 2 link from the footer of a site.

The best way you can get a relevant backlinks to your main niche site is placing in-line links in your posts. It's because that it's helpful for you. You have only a unique keyword in many different posts which will link to your relevant site.

If you want to optimize your website through blogs then try to post the links seprately in posts. Even there is not a problem in putting link of your website in the blog layout.
