So what do you think folks? Has Penguin 2.0 hit yet, or are we in the pre-Penguin Google dance still?

We're still seeing a lot of fluctuation in results from day to day and hour to hour in our niche(s).

      Very good article you wrote in your sig about Penguin. The interesting thing to me is that in our main money niche (finance/loans) the spammers are ranking very well still. So if it's true that this new Penguin is going to deal with the black hatters, they certainly have more work to do before the update is completed.

      For instance, up until May the link spammers were not doing very well in the finance niche at all - they ruled in Bing/Yahoo for long-tail though. With the changes in Googles results through this month those same spammers are ranking well in G now.

      Looking forward to when they are all done with this big update so we can see what ranks when the dust has settled - then we can calm down and move on.

      $php_coding = "consistent cash";

      echo ("Give me" . " " . $php_coding . "!");

        Thanks for the kind words

        Google always has their work cut out for them. They act and then tons of people online react. The reality is, if they were to get rid of tons of link spam it would make life easier for legit businesses. They never seem to accomplish it, though.

        I think it's a good time to start a website and engage in no link building. If what Google says is true, content will be enough

          Then copywriters and conversion optimization specialists would become overnight millionaires. I would love this!

            There's no question that a big change that rendered backlink building useless would favor the more - shall we say - creative?

            Link building is methodical, boring, repetitive work. The folks who are attracted to that model as their main tactic are probably the same. I'm just kidding

            When link building is super effective, then you link build. But if copyrighting and optimization are most important, then that's what matters. If you're positioned well in one of those fields, you are going to make a ton over night as link builders lose sales.

            I know I've been reading up and implementing conversion optimization more and more in recent months. As the traffic dries up, conversions mean way more than ever.

              don't lump all link builders into the same bucket...spammy link builders, yes...high PR link builders who actually know what they are doing...no

    Yes its started/finished, there has been a lot of bouncing in my niche (Unsurprising since it is a very competitive SEO niche).

    My first observations are this:

    - Links from seo tools have been devalued. I think they have targeted SEnuke and other similar tools.
    - Links from social bookmarks, wikis and article directories are devalued.
    - Good web 2.0 links retain their value.
    - Good relevant paid links retain their value.
    - I also think there is some form of content analysis that devalues links. Although i am not sure yet.

    By proxy this obviously increases the value of other metrics. Nothing is surprising with this update at all, and it just echoes the general direction Google is heading and the objectives they are trying to achieve.

    I will write a full report on this when the dust settles.

    FYI i have been monitoring my niche like a hawk. So i am seeing which sites rise and which sites fall. In the next 24-48 hours i will write a blog post and tell you exactly what has been effected.

    I have just seen my 5 different keywords suddenly drops to page 8. So that mean yesterday all keywords were in top 20 but now all our top 100.

    I hate google, Until last day all our niche pages were ranking on the first 3 SERP pages. Right now when i just open the analytics i saw only 4 people visited our website... it's really disappointing... Google throw out my 2 very top ranked pages completely out of the race, it's now not even ranking under 1000. Am in a very big shock. Well, can i still expect anymore changes from google within next few hours that i'll retain my positions back for all those bounced pages?
