I'm still confused. If it supposed to STOP spam, why is every complaining that it's going to screw everyone over? Isn't spam bad? I mean if you have a legitimate website then you wont have to worry right?

    I think you answered your own question. All the people complaining have spam filled websites.

    Agree, most websites that have earned their rankings in an honest en legitimate way isnt that worried. The worried people is cheaters that use black hat seo tricks. Its not even fun to try to fool Google anymore. Another perspective is that people who try to fool Google are more active on seo discussion forums

    People get screwed over because the Penguin update is not perfect.

    Just like previous updates, there will be plenty of collateral damage.

      I agree, you can engage in non spammy link building And still take a hit. It seems as if EMD sites and directory sites are rising in SERP.
