Hi,

I use host gator basic plan and I bought some traffic to my site. My site went down and was told there is too much processing of the index page, does anyone know a host that doesnt restrict this?

Even if you change your host, The problem is still going to persist.

I suppose you are using Wordpress. So try the following, It might help:
    - Disabling all plugins.
    - Optimize databases.
    - Switch back to default permalinks.
    - Changing themes.
    - Updating plugins.
    - Installing Caching plugins like Wp Super Cache.

I hope it was not an issue of you exceeding the bandwidth in your hosting package.

How much is your current traffic. I have used godaddy it was good untill my pageviews 20,000 per day. It would be better if you can optimize your site coding.

has nothing to do with any "processing" on the webpage.

It was due to a boatload of people visiting the site
all at once. Most servers can handle an above normal flow, but
if you bought some traffic where all go at once, it's going
      to be too much.

You probably suffered a temporary 502 error.

Changing hosts would only help if you changed servers at
the same time. No reason really. Just don't buy traffic that
dumps a lot at once. Drip feed it.

Most normal websites will never suffer such a problem, and big
websites have servers that can handle all that traffic at once.

I would not waste the money on such a server, and certainly
not waste money on that kind of traffic.

I see that error all the time on clixsense. People just toss
thousands of visitors at once without knowing what they
      are doing.

How much traffic did you buy? Unless you're requesting thousands of pages each second, I don't see how hostgator would restrict you. If you don't want the restriction, buy a dedicated server.

All professional hosts have some sort of terms of service if you take a shared server down. The good ones warn you, the bad ones just cancel your account.

If it's a Wordpress site I recommend you try the Quick Cache plugin. I also suggest you deactivate any plugins you really don't need.

The processing they are referring to is probably the MySQL queries that the page loads are generating. Presenting a cached version of the home page will reduce the volume of those queries.

Hostgator is one of the best and professional host in the market, so by over traffic, insted of banning they will tell to upgrade the host plan... better clear your index page and make the site up...

I used to ask this question to HostGator. My site use:

    - 15 plugins (SEO, Security, Cache, UI friendly etc.)

They suggested my site could only handle 700 page view adays.

So, If those traffic's not benefit you, trash them!

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!
