Buying PR3+ Sites for SEO?

Anyone have any good quick tips for what to do with PR3+ domain names that we can all acquire cheap? I know how to buy these domains once they expire, but the question is what to do with them now that Penguin 2.0 is out there.

Is it really as easy as standing up a quick WP site, putting some decent unique content on there (4-5 posts?) and having some links shoot over to a "money site" or is there some pyramid building that should be done?

    If you have a good PR 3 site, make it relevant to your main site and send a few links directly to it. No problem at all.

    Definitely awesome for SEO.

    If you know what to look for before you buy them, then go for it. Setting them up should be a piece of cake too. Make sure you get domain privacy (hide whois) and then host them on different class C IPs (SEO type hosting).

    You can link straight to your money site for instant juice, but also make sure to make it look like a "normal" site, by interlinking posts, linking to authority, etc.

    yes, its really this easy....dont over think it...Google is STILL about strong/relevant back links regardless of what cute little animal update it is...

    Exactly like you say, very easy, no need for pyramids as that only leads to loss of link juice.

    Penguin 2.0 didn't change a single thing about private networks, all sites that I worked on that had only links from my network kept their rankings or improved cause the spammers above them got penalized.

    For the people who already had tons of spammy links generated by software it was a total different story, most of them have been hit pretty hard.

      This is where I differ with others. I wouldn't recommend using SEO hosting, you can use regular hosts like Bluehost, Hostgator, etc and have more than 1 account.

      I use seohosting.com (hostgator brand) and you can also use small virtual packages at various hosting companies to get different c-class ips.

    With the exception of some foreign tlds most PR3s that expire without being bid on or snapped up immediately by snapping services are weak unless you intend on building them up. You will see that if you do the backlink checks.

    PR in the tool bar can be old and out of date. I have PR3s from last year that lost their links and still show PR3 perhaps because they are unused and Google stopped coming back for awhile to the site to crawl it or more accurately the sites linking to it. Thats an extreme but pretty regularly domains without the required link juice will survive one PR update even though the juice is not there.

      Put shortly I think - Your're buying the links not the PR. The PR is just a good metric to find sites with great links, also potential penalizations.

    Do a lot of research before plunking down your hard-earned money.

    Many dropped sites are obviously nursing penalties.

    As mentioned do your due diligence. Check the authenticity of the PR, look at the backlink profile (I use majestic, but OSE or AHRefs work as well), and the other metrics like Citation Flow/Trust Flow or PA/DA for OSE.

    I've been using the above mentioned SEO Hosting from Hostgator, but have heard good things and may start using seohost.com as well. They are a bit cheaper as well if I'm not mistaken.
