SEO Question about Amazon review sites

Hello,
In the past I have heard that if Amazon is ranked at the number one position for your search term then it's a good thing. I'm working on an Amazon review site and I have several pages ranking at the 2-4 position just after Amazon. Now, I'm primarily targeting newer products that have lower competition in the serps. Here is my question....
If the product is older item, at least a couple years or so, but Amazon is number one and a bunch of scraped junky WP blogs are on page one they should be relatively easy to outrank shouldn't they? With all the changes that have been going on with Google I was just curious.
