Has anyone on here had any luck ranking more than 1 page on 1 website for the same keyword or keyword phrase? It seems impossible from my experience. What is your experience? Does Google not like this?

My friend got two blog posts ranked on google on the same keyword. He also got a 3rd using youtube. Anyhow, when it comes to making a website, i'm not sure. You can get your website rank 1st and create a youtube video and get it 2nd ranked. That would get you more visitors than just having the 1st place. Some people do visit the 2nd option

Matt Cutts discussed this on one of his latest videos on his blog. I believe he said they will be trying to tweak this later this summer so that once a site ranks for a search term, it doesn't keep coming up multiple times in other results further down in the SERPs. Now whether or not that will happen we shall see...

Sure, it's very possible. I've targeted an inner page on a site for a keyword (thedomain.com/inner-page.html) and ranked it, and at the same time the home page of the same site ranked for the same keyword. It happens a lot. Do several Google searches on a few keywords and you're bound to see a couple (sometimes more) first page positions held by the same site.

And yes, Cutts did say Google is going to try to lessen this "grouping" of matches as they feel it's not as valuable a user experience as opposed to having different domains appearing for a search phrase (don't know if that will happen, but that's what he said).

Matt C. was talking about a very large amount of same domain pages showing up deeper in the search results, which no webmaster would even care about.

This is a quote from the last video Matt C. made (source):

5:43 And we're looking at a change, which might deploy, which
5:46 would basically say, once you've seen a cluster of
5:49 results from one site, then you'd be less likely to see
5:53 more results from that site as you go deeper into the next
5:55 pages of Google search results.
Matt C. didn't say they'll be removing the very first cluster on page #1 of Google SERPs.
