Launch Mobile Site, Decrease in Ranking?

Hey,

Just want to get some input on this. I launched a mobile website with detect and redirect for my main site a couple days ago. Mobile site resides at m.mydomain.com. I go to google and do a site:m.mydomain.com search and see that it has been indexed.

Checked my ranking today and saw that for my primary keyword my website has dropped from position 2 down to position 7 on page 1. (If you count the local results that makes it position 14).

Drop in ranking do to the launch of mobile site? or is it more likely that this was due to the algo update everyone has been making noise about.

Anyone have input of this? Could launching a mobile specific website hurt rankings. I am at a crossroads of the correlation and causation argument. My website is responsive but in my mind was not providing the best experience to my users. Now today is the first day that I have not been seeing any google organic search traffic being sent to my website. Same thing since the launch of the mobile site and decrease in ranking.

It really doesn't matter what I think of the user experience if I am not getting any visitors. I have some plans to implement that should push my ranking back up but if google is saying no more m. mobile specific webpages I would like to get that resolved.

Everything I have been reading says go responsive design which I did and even google says use responsive and server only 1 html unless that dosen't provide the best experience.

Anyone have first hand experience with mobile sites and serp rankings?

It`s about the new update, it has nothing to do with your mobile site launch, don`t worry.

I was hoping someone would say pretty much this exactly. Do serps tend to vary for a while after an algo update or was my site put into the new algo's proper place.

It is my first time paying attention through an algo update. I know that no one can say for sure but today I say a bump up 1 spot for my primary keyword and a couple of my secondary keywords. Hoping it returns to where it was before.
