Could a nofollow link transfer a penalty?

I got one site penalized, and moved it up to a new domain.
I have heard that if we use 301 and 302 redirects, they would transfer the penalty. But what about if I put a nofllow link saying that the site has moved? Is it safe to do?
#link #nofollow #penalty #transfer

whats the purpose of the link, to direct visitors or for the search engines?

    To actually direct the visitors.
As there might still be a little bit of traffic from search engines / bookmarks. The old domain is till PR5.

Nofollow won't transfer page rank so it's a "catch 22" for you.

Hehe, I don't want its PR. What I'm saying only is that the old domain could still be ranking for some time, even with no content and some penalty on it.

So is it safe to place a nofollow link? and let the googlebot crawl it...

I've said it before, I'll say it again...nofollow was to stop spam.
The instructions were, if you do not trust a link, or suspect it
is spam, you put nofollow on it. So, what is google going to
think of a nofollow link? That your site is untrusted? Spam?

Too many people here just can't get over spamming. In fact,
they seem to think that nofollow is natural and that you
should have them. How can you possibly reach that
conclusion? There's nothing natural about nofollow.

People have misused nofollow for all sorts of nonsense. Google
itself has all but accepted that it's a failure. They have even
changed parameters of nofollow, and will not index a page based
        on a nofollow link.

So.....? Can people not read between the lines on nofollow?

Twitter links are probably a different nofollow animal. The whole
thing is nofollow, just like squidoo. IMHO, the context of the
nofollow is also taken into account.

You are seriously mixing up 301, 302, and nofollow in the
first place. Which solidifies my case that people have just
become so twisted about nofollow and 301. Using them
where they don't belong and were never intended.

Well, this is true from the perspective of the one who posts the link, and not the one who receives it.

Well my question was straight-forward, would the nofollow link from a penalized site affect my new site or not. And I would much better prefer a yes or no answer to it

I know what 301 and 302 are- they are meant for REDIRECTS. When google finds them coming from an old penilized site, they will say hey, this is site is a spammer, it's just moved to other domain, so let's now penalize it.

On the other hand a no follow link saying that site has moved would achieve the same thing but would require a manual action from the user. I'm sure google could read between the lines, and say that ah, this page says that this penalized site moved to another site, and not it shows us a ******* huge nofollow link, so could we now give them another slap?

My question is WOULD they do it, or could this solution be finally considered as SAFE?

It will not help you since redirection will let the search engine know about the penalized site.

And as far as no follow link is concerned that will only stop the PR to flow out that's it. So my recommendation would be forget about the previous domain but you can use your site content if it is not the caused for penalization.

Based on several sites that I have recovered after Penguin 1.0, a 301 redirect will not transfer a penalty. Which makes sense if you think about it because you could get a site banned or buy a banned site, and then redirect it to your competitor

There would be a new market on WF in banned and penalised domains.

I do not think there is such a thing as a nofollow 301 or 302 redirect [assuming you are setting it up in .htaccess].

Even if there was, I would not worry about it.
