Static page vs Latest Posts?

I'm having a dilemma on deciding whether to keep my home page as showing my latest blog posts or change it to a static page.

I'm under the impression that having it as my latest posts wont help me in terms of SEO. Reason being I have categories which will display the posts that are on the front page anyway.

What are the benefits of using a static page? Why should I use a static page?

My website is about me on my Journey to become a Professional golfer. It will be updated using the posts every round of golf I play and also some other stuff like tips, reviews and what's worked for me improving my game.

I'm struggling to decide what I could use a static page for.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Why not use both? With the help of widgets, you can insert in your home page a bit of information (Text Widget) with your site's main keyword, and underneath it place your latest posts (Genesis - Featured Widget Amplified). That way you get best of both worlds.

    That is why I love Studiopress.com themes. The Genesis Framework is very powerful and flexible.

    I would suggest you to make a sidebar with a title like recent post or latest post and place all your new post links there. Make sure these links are crawl able by search engines.

    It's possible that constantly changing the text/title/etc... on a web page can drop a page in the SERPs. Depends on the niche (ex: evergreen niche vs. news niche) & the competition.

    It's not like every single site/page/niche/competition will react in the same way.

    Do your own test on your own site. Done.
