Is adsense your main income?

Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering how many of you still use adsense as your main IM income. Does google always ban your account eventually? I have an adsense account that I haven't done anything with in years and I'm wondering if I should should build some sites to take advantage of my account.

Also, I here people saying they prefer custom domains on blogspot over wordpress sites. Is one better than the other for adsense?

Thanks for the help!

    Banned
Yes, Adsense is my main IM income. My account is 6 years old, never had a problem from Google/Adsense. Will Google eventually ban all accounts? I don't know, eventually hasn't got here yet.

I've sold my own evergreen niche products in the past & have recently been considering getting back into doing that again on a larger scale since I have multiple sites in the same niche. I would still run Adsense on my current Adsense sites. My thinking is, regardless of whatever Google/Adsense ever does as long as I still have my niche traffic, it's all good (switch out monetizing method), just a temporary setback (If that day ever happens, looking good so far).

I don't think you can have IM products/links on the free WP host, where you can do whatever you want within reason on blogspot. Having a paid domain name is entirely up to you & doesn't have any impact on income, some people are just anal about free domains. If you think you might eventually sell the site, buy a domain on a paid self host.

    Hey CJ -

I think Adsense is a fine revenue stream and it might be your biggest, but it should not be your only stream of revenue, ever. No, google doesn't always hand out the ban-hammer, but you will hear from those folks first. If you do shady stuff or violate the terms, they will get you in the end. There's little negotiating, which is the sucky part.

I am not sure what your last question specifically means. You should have a "custom domain" and you really should have it powered by wordpress, but I think you are asking what's better for hosting - a paid webhost with your own domain name (powered by WP or whatever), or going with a free blogger/blogspot/free-WP one. Clearly, the better move would be to go with your own domain, have it powered by wordpress and life will be good.

Sorry, I didn't speak clearly enough about the blogspot. I know some people will buy a domain name like yoursite.com and use blogspot as their template and host. You know when you create a blogspot they ask if you have purchased a domain name that you would like to use. So instead of yoursite.blogspot.com, it would be just yoursite.com.

Also, I didn't mean free wordpress. I meant purchasing a host and and a domain name with a wordpress template.

I will most likely make a few sites with a wordpress template and see how it goes. It's nice to see that there are still people making good money with adsense.

      Thanks for all the replies.

Adsense is also my biggest source but i'm trying to at least match it with subscription or recurring income by the end of this year or beginning of next. Don't like having most of my eggs in one bucket.

    Clickbank and Amazon for me.

I always wondered, do you REALLY need thousands of UV's a day just to profit from Adsense?

No, I don't use adsense any more. Used to make decent money and then realized it was not really the best option to monitize niche traffic.

I would always recommend a paid domain and Wordpress hosted on a paid host, if you are serious. The problem with subdomain is, it will tie you up with the service provider and you will not be able to move to a different platform if you want to move in the future. If you move your site to a wordpress blog from a blogger subdomain, you are going to lose all backlinks and search engine ranking.

Used to be 100% but now it's 30% approx. Direct Merchant deals are the best because you have someone to talk to on the phone. Then you can build trust and HELP each other get better conversions - your visitors win, your merchant wins, and you win.

AdSense can bring pretty good income, but it's never good to rely on just one source of income. Develop your own services and sell them. Consider AdSense an "additional source".

I live totally off Adsense income. Google has been a great partner for me. I was one of the first invited into the program. I've never had a problem with Google in the ten years I've worked with them. I just don't do anything that I wouldn't want done if I were Google. It's really mostly just common sense. Don't click on your own ads. Don't ask others to click on your ads. Don't talk about your adsense income or stats with others. Etc.

Shipwrecked, I have other streams of income. I just wanted to see if I should take advantage of my adsense account that I haven't used in several years. I definitely agree that one should not depend solely on one stream of income.

Rick, I definitely won't be doing any stupid stuff to try to make an extra buck. I asked if google always bans accounts because I hear so many people complaining that they were banned and it is only a matter of time until yours is. Just asking out of curiosity.

It's very nice to see that adsense is still very relevant. Adsense can be a nice passive income for any IMer. I have an old ebook from Joel Comm that I will be rereading.

AdSense is my main source of traffic since the past 7 months though i still do other stuff on a small scale like amazon, proxy as an affiliate, logo and SEO.

AdSense do not just ban accounts without reason, it's only when you give them a reason to though a lot of people claim it's not a sustainable source of income but i can truthfully say it's all well here.

No it's not, but it has been instrumental to my operations. I LOVE Adsense.

No, I got banned for no reason from them and that's why I am now using Affiliate marketing and I'm pretty happy with it, much easier and everything is OK if you know what products to promote and how to do it. Adsense was good about 2 years ago!

To get the most clicks , you need to get a lot of traffic first.
I made a nice income with adsense, but I realized it won't last forever.
