I wanted to put an ad on my home page, I do have a blog but really wanted the ads displayed on my home page as that's where I drive most of my traffic. What's the deal?

You'll still need content on the home page.

yes but the way I have my site set up there's no real meaty content on the page...will I have to adjust this in order to use adsense?

Content comes in all sorts of flavors. It does not always mean
an article. It can be an image, video, calculator, clock,
button/image creator, joke, one liner, quick fact, you
        name it.

They don't want you putting adsense on a blank page where
the ad is the only thing there.

        I don't believe it's on google's list of high priotities, if it's
        not a blank page.

But then, yes, google says it's for content. So, make sure you
have some content. Do links qualify? I've seen directories that have
adsense, and, certainly forums. The main forum page has nothing but links to
the other parts of the forum. No "content," yet an adsense banner at the top.

        Look at forums.digitalpoint.com
what real content is on the index page?

Like I said, it's really zeroing in on blank pages with only adsense.
