Hi Warriors,

I was curious to what your strategies are for ranking new sites post Penguin update. From my understanding article submissions, directories and social bookmarking are dead. Penguin has wiped them out. Now SEOers are supposed to focus on gaining high quality natural backlinks (which can be argued that is what you were supposed to be doing all along) and creating a social signal. However, in theory this sounds good but how is a new site supposed to generate these high quality backlinks if it has relatively no traffic in the first place? Guest posting seems to be one answer but then others argue that guest posting is targeted by penguin as well  This leads me to believe that the best/safest option is to generate a strong social signal and hope people will see your content and start linking to your site, perhaps in their own blogs.

What's your opinion?

In my opinion, if you can create few blogs with unique content using other domains (or Free blogging platform) and promote those blogs, that would be great way of getting quality backlinks...

Buy some expired high PR domain and build some blogs with the same niche you have. Now you should use these sites for backlinking. Make sure you have some great articles.

Guest posting is also a good practice. Find some high PR, relevant blogs on your niche and post high quality, informative articles there.

You can build some web 2.0 backlinks with original articles. Make sure they are all built manually and then you can social bookmark each web 2.0 blog at least 4-5 times and you should do it manually.

Regular write 2-3 original articles and use it for ezine submission.

At this point of time, this strategy will definitely work for your site if it is not already been hit by penguin 2.0

I think that a good Post Penguin 2.0 strategy for a new website or blog is to build natural links to your website or blog via Guest Blogging on high traffic sites in your own niche.

There is actually a $20 software called "Guest Post Hunter" that one of one of our own Warriors is selling on here that works really well for finding blogs in your niche which accept guest posts.

Write top notch quality content and get your readers sharing it. Best way in 2013... it's not that difficult.

So you're saying more or less creating a network of blogs that are all linking to each other? and thank you for the links!

Would the expired domain websites be full out websites? With user navigation, etc or basically an article as the homepage with an anchor text link?

I believe I have great content within my site, however I have no readers to share it lol. I have shared my stuff through my social media accounts but that is returning slow results. If I can rank well for my keyword obviously I would then start acquiring more readers that would be willing to share my content. But no matter how great you content is, if you have no readers, there is no sharing going on. Do you have any suggestions on how to gain readers initially?

What you believe, and what is true, could be two completely different things. I say this as someone who believed he had great content as well starting out, but in reality I had the blinders on - sometimes it's hard to be your own critic.

Why not post a link to your site and get a bit of critique on your content, it could go a lot further than worrying about a link building strategy...

Go to forums in your niche and be recognized as someone that is knowledgeable in the topic. After you get a couple hundred of posts in, drop your link in your signature or post relevant articles on your site in relevant threads. It's not much work if you're interested in the topic.

Matt Cutts, the man from Google search engine team said in one of his videos to concentrate on participating in the community meaning answering questions - may be on forum or yahoo answers.

Also he mentioned another best way to generate traffic is through Videos. Creating videos or simply converting your article or post into video has never been so easy as now.

Geezzz, nothing changed. If you changed your strategies just because Google makes some updates, your strategies were wrong in the first place.

If you want to do everything yourself, there are still a lot of options.

Also article marketing, directory submissions, bookmarking sites still help it is just the value of them has been decreased significantly. Keep in mind you want a diverse link profile and having those platforms to use for longtail keywords just help strengthen the diversity of your profile. So you can still use them just dont focus your efforts on them.

You can still do guest blogging, commenting on blogs, web 2.0s, buy link opportunities when you see a good one, write content and share them on document sites, join communities and stay active on them. Your goal is to not put all of your efforts into one source so even if you arent ranked well the combination of many different sources will also help bring in traffic from the sources I mentioned but help along with your SEO as well. Lastly be active on the bigger social networks twitter, facebook etc..

First of all I will tell you that Old link building methods are not dead. What is actually happen is that quality matters now that to in the form of content. You think that submitting articles to amzines, go articles and other trusted sites are now in vein. No, if your content is unique then there are some quality article networks where you can publish you content (new and unique) and get high quality in bound links. Coming to SBM, still there are lot of high PR sites which are regularly crawled by Google , main thing is to diversify your Title and description in SBM. SBM is still very effective if done right. Last you said that Directories are dead, you can say it is true. They are of less importance, still you can do search engine directory submissions to get recognized.

Regarding other methods like Infographics, Guest Blogging, General Blog Comments, Publishing content to blog networks and linking to you site, Document sharing, Press release, Citations, Local Directory, maintaining one blog directory at your own site and interlinking their post and also, not to forget the power of Social Networks, like Twitter, G+, Facebook etc. can help a lot in ur business visibility in SERP.

I hope you got my points.

    Thanks

We are focusing on guest posting, forum posting and yahoo answers. Whatever you do, you should remember to provide high quality content. I don't think article submission, directory submission, etc has been dead, you just need to control the quantity and improve quality.

Article marketing still works, but you need to improve the quality, and keep up a steady quantity stream. That is the only way if you wish to go the article marketing method.

    Hi,
In my opinion articles and bookmarking are still working and both are the best off page activity but use fresh content with meaningful information and post them on high PR sites. And don't work on quantity basis, work on behalf of quality. Definitely you will get good result.
