Putting Links in your own blog posts

Is there any value in putting keyword links into your own blog post to other pages of your site, so for example if my blog was about biscuits and I wrote:

"There are lots of different types, digestives for example..."

And I had the word digestives linking back to another page on my site, is there any SEO value in this at all, is it recognised?

Yes, that's perfect. Make sure that the "digestives" page that the link goes to is highly relevant page on digestives. Also, try to keep internal links some-what relevant. For example, from a music page, don't like to a page about growing vegetables. The idea is that you want to not only improve your rankings, but entice readers to clickthrough to improve their time spent on-site and bounce rate.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

As long as they are related to the topic it is perfectly fine.
But also be sure to even diversify those links by adding links to other authority pages once in a while (I like wikipedia for this purpose).

It is also a great way to keep your audience on your site, thus building trust and make them more likely to convert into buyers/list subscribers/Facebook fans/...

This is good, because this is a good way for search engines to also visit another page of your website when SE"s robots are visiting your website. The main idea of this is to have link to EVERY page!

linking your pages to one other is good thing for seo, just make sure the anchor texts are related to those links.
