June 2013 SEO techniques for USA site

Everything changes so much and so often. I have done okay with SEO stuff over the years but I am no expert. I have dozens of domains and I have linked them here and there over the years and all I can say is it seems to have worked decently for this small niche market.

I'd like to do SEO for certain key phrases, quite a number of them. Can anyone summarize SEO stuff that works now, as of June 2013? Or better yet, is there any recent book that can teach me how to do this?

Lastly, are there things I can pay low-cost (meaning non-USA workers) contractors to do that actually work to boost SEO results? The niche is relative only to the USA.

    Very simple...

Get High PR contextual backlinks from websites that are in the same niche. Those are your Gold backlinks.

Yes, there is. But you get what you pay for.

Let's say you spend $100 per month and you will get bunch of low quality forum signatures, blog comments etc.

If you don't have the money to spend, do it by yourself.

If you don't know how do to do it, you have read a lot, go through some courses and follow real SEO persons. That's it.

      Pretty much this.

Before hiring anyone I'd spend time learning what types of links work (contextual links from related sites).

Unless you can ID an effective link you're throwing money out the window (trust me, there are many $1k/month providers who build Ezine article and web directoriy links).

Price definitely helps, but you also need to know SEO pretty well to make sure you're not getting burned.

  • Livemusic,

Flipfire has some good points. I would also recommend increasing the amount of social signals that you get especially on Google Plus. There is evidence that these help increase rankings.

I would be careful about “cheap” solutions for SEO. As onlineonly mentions, you do get what you pay for. If someone is promising you good returns for little money, odds are its either a scam or they don’t know what they are doing. In either case, they could make a big mess for you to clean up.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

Don't listen when someone tells you what "links" work.

Not that they are wrong, but diversity is the key and knowing the latest techniques is important.

You need to find experts you trust or learn it yourself.
