I Just Spent $1000 on Facebook Ads .... In Less Than 30 Minutes

I'm not that experienced with advertising on Facebook. I actually don't have much experience with paid advertising in general. I've done it once or twice but with small budgets of about $100-200. Back then, I was creating really targeted niche sites, so I wasn't getting a large reach with my ads. $100 would last me like an entire day.

Then, I tried again yesterday.

I started a new website, that's not really a targeted-niche-SEO-adsense-make-fast-money kind of site but more of a really-interesting-content, share-happy kind of website. Perfect for Facebook advertising.

Anyways, I targeted a reaaaally large reach with only a few parameters, and WOW. I set my budget at $1000 and I spent it in about half an hour.

I did get 2000+ likes in the process (and still rising slowly after ads are paused). So I'm not complaining.

But Wow Facebook Ads are Powerful. I don't even know why I'm writing this here. Just wanted to share my experience.

Were the Likes to the home page of your site or to a fan page?

Time to start sharing big time. See if you can expand that out organically now.

That's a good bit more than I pay for Likes on Facebook. You can really dial it in and get cheaper Likes.

So you're paying $2 per like? That's a lot of money for facebook ppc. Should be able to generate 2K likes with maybe $200-300.

How many ads did you create? I hope you did a little bit of split testing in that!

Was this just to drive traffic? Build an audience? Did you get any conversions with that traffic?

Isn't it $.50 per like? I'm getting confused lol.

      How Many Ads
I created about 6 ads. They were a mix between liking my facebook page, and promoting posts. Only 2 of them were approved and running. They were both for liking the Facebook page.

      Traffic During Ad Campaign
It drove about 800 users to my site which I'm pretty confused about.
I don't understand Facebook users. Each share leads to a page on the website, so people are liking the page and then leaving without even visiting the site?

      Traffic After Ad
As for audience, the content is continuously being shared on Facebook I guess. I'm getting about 300-400 visitors a day from Facebook. Ads are not running after that one time. The site was launched June 4, so it was a good kick start to the site. If people continue to share my content, and traffic gradually builds... that's what I'm hoping for.

You should have used an engaging app to almost force users to like your page. "WarriorForum are giving away a free iPad! Just hit LIKE and be in with a chance of winning".

Down below, you set your terms & conditions for the draw to be run in 6-months time. That gives you 6-months worth of time to get $500 worth of likes, easy enough. At least this way, your $0.50 per like will drop way down to like $0.05.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Awesome. Something I'll definitely try out for my next campaign.

Make sure you keep the advertising EXTREMELY targeted. Also, with the app, give them the chance to earn additional entries by sharing your page.. Their friends see the share... Win/Win!

One of the problems with running two ads for $1000 is that you blow a lot of money before you really get a good chance to optimize your ads for CTR.

It's more work, but it will save you money if you create multiple campaigns and give each ad its own campaign. Then you give each ad $20 or so and let it go. This way you can test an ad out without blowing through your daily budget so quickly.

After each ad gets a few thousands views you can decide whether to pause it or let it go based on it's CTR.

that's wayyy too much money for 2000 likes, especially now that you'll be hard pressed to reach 40% of them without promoting your shares as well. With just a bit of optimizing you can get that down to under 10c per like but I've given up on buying more likes as it doesn't equate to that much more reach. Hopefully your 2000 will build up some steam on their own and continue to grow.

                Let's get back on topic.

The OP used 'Facebook Ads' to get the Likes. They're all real people and they'll stick.

The only problem is he didn't set his options the right way and overpaid big time. Most of us can get 'Likes' for 1 cent to 5 cent all day - real people through Facebook interest based ads, not robots.
