Well, adsense is pretty comprehensive. But then there is a lot of discussion that there are third party softwares that can read betwen the lines.

I think you can do almost everything you need within AdSense. After all, the main goal is optimizing your site for AdSense so you can maximize revenue. So, your ultimate goal is increasing your site's RPM.

This can be done by setting up a very specific tracking system for your ads, and constantly testing and analyzing new methods. Find out which ads convert the best, and what positions they do best in. Test. Test. and Test some more. In my opinion, that is the best way to optimize your site for AdSense.

Thanks for your response. Are you referring to adsense tracking system i.e channels?

yes, I use channels to monitor stats at a site level (ex: checking the RPM for the whole site).

I also create a separate ad unit for each ad placement on the site, and monitor the results when large amounts of traffic are sent to the site. I will monitor CTR, CPC, and RPM of each ad placement, and make adjustments as necessary.

Statcounter is seriously flawed. They record every supposed
click. They are not even close to what google counts.

Statcounter might be a way of looking for the number of invalid clicks,
as google no longer reports those in the total.

But you probably would suffer a heart attack by noticing 100 clicks
in statcounter, and only 10 from google.

You already have so many choices to track ads from adsense now.

The only real stat is your bottom line.
