Monetizing Viral Traffic - 20k visitors in 1 day
- SEO |
Well yesterday one of my pages went viral on a small scale and I got 20,000 visitors. All of the new traffic was from facebook. My earnings for the day weren't even close to the 5x traffic increase. The actual numbers aren't important. Prior to yesterday I'd be lucky to get 20 visitors from facebook. (today is roughly 13,000).
Anyway - Is this common with facebook traffic? In general does it convert less on a site running adsense as it's primary source of income?
My site isn't one that would generally go viral, and I can't figure out in Google Analytics how to tell why it did. It's almost all a single page and that page has some very good information put into a table/infographic. I'm assuming people were sharing the page because of that, but that traffic had a crazy high bounce rate and 1.1 pages/visitor compared to almost 2 on average.
So I'm puzzled. People liked the page enough to share, but they had no desire to browse through the site?
So my biggest question is do you see the same thing with your facebook traffic?
