For how many keywords should you optimize your website?

My website is ranking quite well on first page for two seed keywords.
However,My website is getting traffic from other keywords as well.
So, I want to optimize them as well. FYI, for the above two seed keywords,
my homepage is appearing in SERPs.

So, my question is to whether optimize more 10 keywords for the homepage URL
or I need to create new pages and rank them.

You can easily optimize your homepage for 10 keywords, as long as they are somewhat related and you don't over-optimize.

After that, you will be better off building new pages to rank, just so you don't build too many links to the homepage and throw off your SEO.

As many as you want, just make sure you don't over-optimize your website.

I usually stick to 5 keywords per page, but this is a personally preference, usually i rank for a lot more multiple keywords per page, but my aim is to target 5 main keywords per page and the rest are longtail keywords with minimal searches.

    Regards,

I'd go with creating new pages. If your homepage is already ranking well I wouldn't mess with it too much.
