Citations, Citations, Citations along with.... Correct "NAP" (Name, address & phone #) For all citations and Google Local and site ect....

For optimization be sure to put Multiple pics (at least 10), your keywords and selecting proper categories.

I'm sure you already know this, but in case you don't. You'll want to link from your Google + publisher account to your site and vice versa back to Google + and link from your Local business page from and to your site.

In addition to this, reviews are also playing a part. The more positive reviews across your citations and Google Local page the higher you'll rank.

The good thing about local rankings is that they can be achieved in a shorter period of time in comparison with those in organic search results. Just start with proper on-page optimization (contact information, address, map embedded, plus local keywords in title, description and content).

As for off-page optimization for local SEO, three types of backlinks are essential here - citations, local business directories listings (Yelp, Yellow Pages etc.) and positive reviews of a local business.

And here’s a short tutorial on how to check rankings in both organic and universal search results:

Local has changed a TON over the last year.

Just getting citations, maps, videos, images etc is not good enough.

In fact, you will notice local is disappearing on many searches as well.
