Does Website Design (Quality Theme vs Free Theme) Matter in SEO

Hello,

As you may have seen in some of my other threads I have been talking about what the average CTR of websites are for adsense, etc.

Now, I have a question here, my website portfolio (Adsense one) is ONLY created mostly for making money via Adsense, we are going to revamp them to try to work on CTR and things of that nature, and I want to know.

Do you think the type of template/theme you use for your website will matter as far as rankings go? For example would a site rank higher if it used a premium paid theme vs a free adsense optimized theme simply because it offers users a "better look and feel".

Has nothing to do with ranking.

Unless it's a bad design, codewise.

Makes no difference if it's free or paid.

Here's a better idea. Dump WP and either hand code or
get a real CMS. Or hand code and get a real CMS.

That way you have total control.

If you really wanted "quality," that's exactly what you would do.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

You don't like WP? It seems everybody in SEO loves it. (I don't, but I'm open, lol.)

What is a "real CMS?" (A serious question, I am curious what you mean.)

  • Thanks Paul,

We are not looking for really quality, we are wanting to improve our CTR's on our Network of sites is all, and curious to know if we change them to some "Adsense Optimized Themes" if it would makea huge difference on rankings etc.

"Adsense Optimized Themes" - can indeed have an impact on your rankings, too much adsense above the fold etc... might result in some higher CTR's in the short term but there's a very real possibility it might trip a Google filter depending on the theme.

I'd steer clear of that sort of stuff.

Yes a webpage can have an impact on SERP rank, doesn't matter If it's WP or plain HTML, If the page/site structure is bad, it's bad.

The key with Adsense is to get your Ads placed around call-to-actions.

Careful with some of those templates/themes that claim high Adsense CTR, some of those are very aggressive. Again, it's not about plastering the page with Ads, it's about placing Ads where the traffic is focused.
