How can I figure out what a competitor is doing?

I have a competitor who I see has stolen copy from my page and ranks higher than I do! First, I am going to ask him to remove that page. But beforehand, I want to know all about his SEO. How can I find out what he has done SEO-wise?

    Ahrefs is probably the best option. Though I'm also a fan of SEO Spyglass From Link-Assistant. While IMO Ahrefs gives better results, SEO Spyglass is much more affordable and still pretty solid.

    There are many tools, but truthfully building in-house tools that can analyze the competition is your best bet. If you aren't there yet, use the stuff online.

    You can also try SEO spyglass, they have a free trial version where you can see the URLs/pages, etc...

    I agree you should write to them directly and request your page removal. I had a couple of cases in my practice when people played good folks and followed the request. However, if they don't follow you request, there's little you can do. Perhaps you could inform their hoster and ask them to take actions but they'll just change their hosting provider.

    With that in mind, just do what you're supposed to do, i.e. contact them and request them to stop violating your copyright. If they don't take any actions, just let it go. Google knows you're the original publisher, so there's nothing to worry about.

    Don't see why you need to do that beforehand, but anyway. You'll have to look at two aspects: on page and links.

    You can use website audit tools to check where they excel compared to you. You can also look with your naked eye and check stuff like titles, meta descriptions, keywords in bold. But these are normally tiny factors. They probably excel in link building.

    I concur, SEO spyglass is great for link analysis.
