Does using social bookmarking software put your sites at significant risk for G penalty? I'm guessing this would be considered blackhat?

    Any sort of link building puts you at risk with Google.

    Using software can either be good or bad. Learn how to use it and you'll be fine.

    Get sloppy with it and you'll be sorry lol.

    Organic content that people naturally share is awesome.

    Spammed backlinks and other unnatural link building is risky IMO.

    Avoid the spammy pligg sites with no PR. Avoid spamming with a bunch of automated software.

    Go for the high PR ones that are ideally do follow (a good mix of no follow and do follow is good) It's a natural way for you to promote your website

    Social bookmarks use to be recommended in Google webmaster guide.

    Quite often it isn't so much the TYPE of backlinks but HOW and WHERE you build those link.
    Backlink profile also plays into the situation

    Depends on your use. you should not directly bookmark your money websites. limit their bookmarking and bookmark other stuff of yours

    It always come down on how do you bookmark them! Just avoid using spammy bookmarking! Make sure you don't build massive social bookmarking as it would damage your website!

    If you really want to keep some your stuff automatic, then I would suggest you to use Onlywire (since it adds your site to quality bookmarks).

    Most of the socialbookmark sites from Ultimate daemon are rubbish, spammed to death, with PR n/a.

    That's being said I'm not a fan of socialbookmarking at all. However, it's good place for getting traffic spikes.

    I did it before now I no longer use any tools to submit my web pages to Social bookmarking sites. One of the reason is it is time waste. Most of them are providing either JavaScript redirect or links with nofollow. Also with Penguin updates I lost interest in number of links.

    I still use Facebook and Google plus to promote my posts but all this is by manually. Personally I believe using any type of link building tool is blackhat.

    If you want to bookmark, do that for legitimate reasons and build relationship with your users.

    Using for SEO is another thing entirely and it can get you a penalty despite the low result it has in todays SEO.

    Do it MANUALLY! Submit with DIFFERENT title and description in EVERY Social Bookmarking sites! Do not do it with a software... Yes, you can build 100 backlinks, but over 80+ of them would be spammy backlinks, why don't you choose TOP 5-6 Social Bookmarking sites and submit there... This is good for both traffic and SEO!
