I have a file that contains thousands of these .edu and .gov back links. They look like regular links. (http://example.gov/article/date)

What do I do from here? How do I improve my SEO from these links?

Okay, so here's what you have to do:

Step 1) Right click on the file -> "Delete"
Step 2) Right click on your Recycle bin -> "Empty recycle bin"
    Step 3) Move on...

Seriously, it's a waste of time. Trying to leave those spammy blog comments on .edu blogs which have been run over by scrapebox thousands of times.

.edu links are worthless or near worthless -- especially the ones you (and everybody else) have access to. This belief that they have special power just needs to die

When I was starting some years ago I made a mistake to post in a few edu pages that wee spammed to death. The backlinks never registered in WMT despite I have a lot of crap backlinks registered in WMT (from rss scrapers etc).

EDU pages don't have any extra benefits; they are only popular because usually EDU sites have high PRs due to people linking to it; ergo the myth of trying to get backlinks from EDU sites bla bla bla.

A post about dinosaurs in an archeology EDU site with a n/a PR and a comments section that has 78 comments with "Dear sir/madame, I like your post thanks for posting, I haz can have your RSS I haz like to read your blog in future" and the name of the comment posters being "auto insurance new delhi" will, in fact, have the potential to damage your site if you post a comment with a backlink to your site; seen it many times.
