Important question about Traffic and SEO

Just saw this post: http://www.vimm.com/add-tags-blog-posts-wordpress/

One man told me to don't add Tags to my posts because it will create duplicate content. The tags will help SEO and Traffic or it will create duplicate content?

Eg. If i have Postname 1, and i add 5 relevant tags to Postname 1, it will help Traffic and SEO or will create Duplicate content?

EDIT: I`m using Wordpress SEO, don't know if Canonical is added for Tags or Posts ...

    Generally I only add one tag per post, sometimes two if I think it will help visitors find posts easier. Dont worry about duplicate content just ensure under your wordpress settings you have your noindex set for your tags.

    I have only one category where i put all my posts because its just a niche.

      Same here, I have maintained one category where all my post falls into that.
      IMO, tags and category options are useful in better navigation and structure of site form user prospective. From SERP prospective they are pointless.

    so if we have category added then we should remove tags ? I have made mistake in my blog because I have same category and tag words so it will be in duplicate content.

    Thanks for discussion on tags..

    If you use tags properly, 2 to 3 unique tags related to your post then it is beneficial.. if you started adding a lot of tags then it won't be beneficial and it would reduce your indexing rate, and SEO would also get affected.

    Tags never create duplicate content even many pro bloggers are using this. You should add maximum of 3 tags per your post as it helps in determining " Related posts " below every post. If you have 2 posts belongs to 2 different categories but having the same tag then when you will read one of the 2 post then another one will show in " Related posts ".
