What is event tracking in Google analytics?

Please tell me the pros and cons and how to do the event tracking in Google analytic.Is there any good benefit of event tracking.

    Event tracking is used to track interactions on your website that do not trigger pageviews. For instance clicks on external links, downloads, video views, etc. They are beneficial because you can track user interaction with other elements of your website besides just visiting pages.

    To set up event tracking, you have to call the _trackEvent() method on the action you want to track. More info on how to do that here,

    Let's say you run Twitter.

    You want to have some idea how many people log in, how many people read tweets, how many people retweet tweets, how many people favorite tweets, how many people compose tweets, how many people read their @connection screen, how many people read their #me screen, how many people do a search, and how many people read direct messages over different time periods.

    If you were to send an event to Google Analytics each time someone performs one of those actions, you'd have a report that would answer all of those questions. You would be able to use that report to understand the feature usage of your site and drive decisions about design and future development. You would even able to answer the most valuable question of "how did those numbers change this week compared to last week" to see the exact impact of changes you make to the site on feature usage.

    I don’t think google analytics have any cons because that’s a very good tool to track your website traffic. We do professional SEO I personally didn’t find any con in google analytics, even in custom reporting, Goals, and Funnels. Yes while creating filters you must be aware to create a new duplicate profile and apply the filter on that instead of the original profile.
