Hello there,

I was just wondering if anyone's aware whether these two are still helpful in SEO matters for the website? A lot of things changed in the last 6 months, and it seems Google looks differently at Squidoo and HubPages now.

Thanks!

Links on squidoo are now nofollow.
I would not even bother with it.
Squidoo is run by people who have no clue
about SEO, duplicate content, sales pages, etc.

And I mean completely clueless. But the founders
will still make boatloads of money.

      Thanks Paul - I agree.

I just spent a lot of time and energy putting my first Squidoo lens together only to have it "locked" 24 hours later for "duplicate content" issues. There were none however I was also amazed at the caviler attitude expressed by their staff. If I don't like the lockdown, I can export my content and take it elsewhere! So that is what I am doing...

Thanks again for confirming that it is not just me.

I fully agree with you!!! DoFollow web2.0 websites are MUCH more useful and their owners can even easily multipy their earnings for being their webmaster... But it's still good, if you have any OLD pages that still rank high in Google!

Links from Squidoo to your site may not hold much value, but you can get your Squidoo pages ranked in Google easily and make money through them.

I don't think Squidoo is useful anymore in terms of seo since the links are no-follow. But hubpages are great if you know how to play around with it, they only allow good quality original content to publish on a hub.

If your author score is 75 or above then all the links on the hub content will be do-follow, if it is less than 75 then the links becomes no-follow automatically (they have some system in place). Few of my hubs created long back are ranking in google even today for some keywords.

So if used in a right way, hubpages can be of some help to you in terms if SEO.

Hubpages is good, it is better than Squidoo...

You get dofollow links according to the level you reach.

You can use it for earning money purposes as well, and you can earn good money from Adsense, Amazon, eBay etc.

I think hubpages and squidoo did not help much on ranking your website. just focus on your content and marketing to have a successful website.

Hubpages is leading a major crackdown on low quality articles and hubpages will indeed help you in improving ranking as well as earn some passive income.

I currently have quite a few featured hubs published, but still hesitant if I should continue spending my time on there.

      Thanks for the tip!

Anyone can jump on this to confirm too?

Both are useless in my opinion. Hubpages doesn't allow duplicate content (content that I have written. Not plagiarized) and Squidoo is nofollow.

Focus on other strategies. These are old skool methods for SEO.

I am writing completely unique, quality, original content for HubPages, and were looking to do the same for Squidoo.

I see that it doesn't do much in terms of SEO, both of them, however, I assume it might be of some help in building website's presence and some traffic.

And yes, ALL my hubs are scored at 75, over 1300 words and hitting all those quality marks HubPages are asking for (photos, videos, etc.)

So long as you are focusing on publishing highest quality content on either Squidoo or Hubpages (and it seems like you are doing so with your high hub score), then you should have no problem generating real human traffic (not just search engine spiders). In some niches, it's more important to get those real visitors (as they click on ads and buy products) rather than just search engine attention. Keep doing what you've done with the sites and you should do well.

In some ways Squidoo and Hubpages are still helpful in your SEO efforts because you can post content there, you'll just need a good content to post there...

I have a 35+ page quality content site I just built. I just learned how to use Squidoo and Hubpages this week. If I were posting similar content, would I, for example, have a 35 page lens and a 35 page hub, or would I have 35 lenses and 35 hubs? This whole lens/hub thing seems clunky to me/not intuitive.

      Thanks!

I guess I should clarify - I'm just using a 35 lens or hub as an example. My writing runs 600-1400 words, averaging around 850 words. If I had, for example, 35 of those in one lens, it'd be a really long lens. It's all related content around one topic. But maybe that is preferable, I don't know. It sure is a pain to set up lenses.

        Thanks!

How distinct are each of these 35 topics? For instance, is there enough information to fully flesh out a topic to 1000 words or more? That's what you'll need for a really good Hub.

The more specific you can make each Hub (or Lens), the better as it will rank better and show more targeted ads that get clicked on.

You must also be careful of the links you build for your squidoo lens, if they see spammy links to a lens they will lock it.

Squidoo is useless for SEO of a page other than a squidoo lens.

Saying that squidoo is helpful for seo, is like saying...

Passing out flyers or door hangers is good for SEO.

Of course you can still do SEO for squidoo...but I doubt
if that was the OP's question.

Squidoo is still good for funneling traffic. But funneling traffic
is not really SEO. And the traffic that was once funneled, is
      now but a trickle.

Judging by the responses here and elsewhere, one can only
assume hub is doing the same lame things as squidoo.

So we already established that HubPages provide do-follow links for hubs with the score of 75+.

Any update on Squidoo? Is there any way to get do-follow from them?

I kinda like hubpages. Put up my first article. Got 50 views today. It was a little confusing, because at first it was 'denied', and then I noticed it was up and 'featured'. That was very confusing, but clearly it's there...

    My score is 70.

Also links to my Adsense apparently. This seems like it could really be useful.

Both were good for seo, but now mainly they can be utilized for backlinking and free traffic generation to your site, where you can also build a list but they doesn't have much importance for seo as before.

Squidoo is nofollow. Useless for backlinking. Hub is nofollow for
new members. Again, useless for backlinking.

I use to be a big fan of Hubpages but regardless of their linking strategy it violates one of my primary rules:

    control

I need to have control over the website I'm posting content to. Control over layout, comments, onsite optimization, you name it. On the other hand, I think the site is fantastic for testing purposes.

Hubpages and Squidoo don't like Internet Marketers. Had 1000 word excellent detailed articles with images deleted and know many others that did as well.

Squidoo only has less than 600k pages indexed. There are probably 5 million + lenses in existence that Google doesn't know or care about.

Hubpages is like another web2.0 property. You can piggyback off the authority from the subdomain but the fact that it can go no follow, and worse deleted make it one of the more time intensive ways to build links with not much upside and decent risk.

In short, Squidoo and Hubpages would be good for side income vs an SEO strategy at this point. I know because I had 700 Squidoo lenses (all unique content, etc) making around $100 a month but the account went *poof*, and many lenses started to become deindexed due to their filter (only a handful of every lense created will remain in thier index)

Think of Hubpages as Blogspot. Both platforms offer some link juice, and some earning potential, but hubpages is heavily moderated. Squidoo has become a clubhouse, where only a select few "like" each other lenses and keep them at the top in the 600k or so index.

Why do you guys bother playing games with these types of sites (HubPages, Squidoo, EZA, etc...)?

Those types of sites are milking you people for all you've got while they bank big time from your free content for the next 20 years.

hey all, I am getting so confused in regards to hubpages... some of you testify to the fact that it works but i am having a hard time getting my page approved because it has one external link to my blog. My blog contains an affiliate link, so I understand that this may be why my page isn't getting approved.

Any tips on linking on hubpages??? Is there a proper way to include external links???

    many thanks in advance!!!

Squidoo and hub pages both are good. You can get lots of traffic from the post and also you will get backlinks from high PR sites. So overall I can say it is good. From SEO perceptive it wont help much.
