Hi.

Would the google keyword tool be a good starting point in researching a keyword for a blog I am about to create? Also, would I need to keep the URL of my blog, and page title of my blog exactly the same to help it rank well in Google search? Any advice you give would be very helpful.

Thanks
Richard

Absolutely use the google keyword tool (which may be gone as a stand alone soon).

Some would argue that EMD, or exact match domains, are actually penalized by google these days, however, I'm yet to experience that myself, so I don't really know if using your keyword in your blog URl is good or not.

If I could give my opinion, I would say this: try to stick with WP blogs and concentrate on optimizing each blog post with keywords rather than your entire blog. WP blogs are notorious for ranking fairly easily with long-tail keywords (KW phrases that are 2 or more words).

Thanks for the info. So would you say going down the WordPress blog route was better than the blogger.com option?

Also, do you know if standard WordPress blogs promoting affiliate products are permitted, or are such blogs not allowed?

        Hi Blib,
I want to know that how can I change our blog "permalink" in wordpress blog. Means where the option "Edit Permalink" will find to edit our blog URL.

        Thanks in Advance

Hello thanks for the info! Should I opt for high search volume, low competition keywords for my blog in order to stand a better chance of a higher page ranking?

Yeah Google Keyword tool is great to help you figure out a good domain name and keywords. It shows you average monthly searches based on that keyword and you can target it by country if you want.

Re domain and title they are certainly two factors which help you rank higher in search results. But beware that these are no longer the instant success that they once were. Google pays a lot more attention to back links which are links to your site from other sites to gauge its importance in the Internet. So before you go ahead, I'd suggest searching your key words in Google and check out the top listings. See how well they seem to target your keywords and check their page rank in any of the various page rank websites such as: Google PageRank Checker - Check Google page rank of any web pages

Once you know the page rank, you can think about how much work it would be to beat those sites. Note that Google is much smarter with backlinks now so you can't just spam a load of sites with your link. It takes a lot of time to build, and worse still Google is slow to recognise those links for its page rank Be prepared to be patient if you're relying on search engine results.

Would it be worth paying for some quality backlinks to save time? If not, how do I go about getting quality backlinks myself, would it be an idea to create posts on sites such as squidoo and suchlike?

Google Keyword Tool was awesome. But from the latest news from Google, Google Keyword Tool will no longer be available after 2 or 3 months and we should use Google Keyword Planner which actually made for Adwords users and it won't help us much. So I started using Wordtracker and SEMrush keyword tool to develop and target keyword ideas.

Yup - it will no longer be an external tool, which is a real bummer.

Will the Google keyword tool eventually only be only available with AdWords?

Yes, very soon you will need an adwords account to access the tool. From what I understand, it will not function the same as the awesome external tool we all know and love .. we'll have to see, I guess.

One thing to keep in mind when researching different keywords to target for your website are the specific match types (broad, phrase, exact). If you're looking at a larger niche where there is a lot of volume across exact match keywords with lower competition, fantastic!

If you're aiming more top level and plan on writing content surrounding a niche topic where there can be varying interests (keywords), you'll want to look at multiple keywords and the search volumes for phrase matched variations. This will help with overall estimates, however it's also important to look at the trends for each to help gauge and forecast what you can expect in terms of performance (and potential revenue) down the line, particularly for seasonal niches and industries.

            Hope this helps!

I have been a blogger for the past seven years now. Since blogging is writing, Google adword keyword tool is the tool I use every time I make an article for my blog of course using s.e.o. technique to be listed in search engines. This tool is good for it gives you actual searches of word or word phrase with in a specified span of time as well as the competition of word searches.

With regards to keeping your url as it is, is ok, I don't see any reason why you should not, your site well rank well for as long as you write good articles.

    TIP TO PONDER:

Google loves good content and people searching the web uses words to search for something. Thus, it is ample to say to write articles that are useful to readers but don't over stuff it with keywords for it will be indexed by google in a later time. Use s.e.o,. techniques in writing.

Of course, you can use Google Adwords Keyword Tool because it is too accurate, it is widely used by most of the bloggers, webmaster. Most importantly, it is based on Google search network.

You can put your main keyword in title, heading, content etc. you can target more than one keyword per page as well.

I would probably also check other tools for competition on non-PPC channels. For example it's possible that the competition is low on adwords but for SEO the competition may be completely different.

I doubt these factors even register a blip.

    Don't worry about it.

Give your blog a real name.

(Unless you can tell me ONE successful blog that is named after it's main keyword...)

    Just sayin.
