Hi

Do you think it would be possible to create a private blogging network based on free online blog service?

  • Minimalpris,

I think you could get away with anything for a short period of time but the issue is that ultimately, these aren’t your websites and they are someone elses. If Blogger or wordpress.com feel that you are violating their rules, they can wipe out a lot of hard work. I would keep that in mind before going to too much trouble.

    Best,

The strength of a private blog networks lies in the fact that it's often build up on existing domains with pagerank and a natural back link profile, or complete purchased websites.

When you want to base it on blogger or wordpress you have nothing of all that so it would be a worthless network of PR n/a pages. Besides that you want to be in control of your network, Wordpress is famous for deleting blogs so even if you put a lot of work into it to increase the strength of those properties it can all be over in one day.

In addition to what Nik0 said another thing is you can't control the links put on the page at many web 2.0 services. Those links you can't control are just dividing up the juice so your own links are weaker.

There will no pr juice passing from these too higher tiers. I would suggest going with high pr domains, but if you are bent of free ones then you need to link them heavily to see any result

There is nothing wrong with option 2 of the Blog Network setup. And in many ways, it can be a better way to generate conversions. Which is the main Goal at the end of the day.
    Even over ranking.

Instead of, lets say for example $100 investment into an

    Expired domain
    Vs
    New Web2.0 free blog

    Expired Domain Pros
    Its in your total control
    It can be more customized
    I can plan ahead

    Expired Domain Cons
    It expensive to buy
    I have to build it
I have to pay each month/year to maintain it

    Web 2.0 Pros
    It's free to get
    It's free to maintain
I can set the domain name to better match my neighbourhood
Instead of paying for the domain and hosting each month. I can outsource getting it updated regularly

    Web 2.0 Cons
It's not mine to keep forever and can be taken at any time
Algo or Site-Wide changes (Switch to No-Follow) may effect it's SEO value
It can be restrictive in design and expansion opportunities

But to me at the end of the day. They should both be used as sources in both sales and SEO value combined.
It's not a question of one or the other.

Well ideally the blog network would be in your own domain but
considering you can have quality web 2.0s done for not a lot of money
I know from experience they are worth doing.

There is too much difference between blog network and web 2.0 sites. However, you would get benefit from these web 2.0 sites too.

Why not both build your own blog network as well as use the Web 2.0 properties to build link juice to your network.

Thats a huge waste of time and really not all that valuable at the end of the day.

Why build a platform on something that you really have no control over?

Tons of people already use Web 2.0 sites to build links and get traffic to their main websites.

This isn't really a "private" blog network, since you are building content on public domains that others can build content on as well.

But, it is a viable strategy. Plenty of people make money by using Web 2.0 articles to generate links and traffic.

Use the privacy option when registering or transferring the domain.

You can mainly use those web 2.0s network to diversify anchor texts and place primary keywords on private blog network that you own.

Wordpress is way better than blogger, I never had any problem with wordpress.
You won't lose your work if you back it up every time and don't violate their TOES.
