Well be sure to not just stick your head in the sand about monetization. I've seen people build websites that get large amounts of traffic before, then they show up in forums asking how to monetize it, and as it turns out there is almost no way to monetize.

Thanks for reminding people about that, what you say is really true. But this project is built in one of the biggest niche markets in the world. The plan to make money was ready before I started to build it.

Knowing that the money will come, I focused on the one thing that many seem to forget, to build a really nice looking website, made for users to use. All this did cost me a lot of time and a big investment, but know in search results it is paying out. The real money will be later...

Nothing wrong with that and having a good site is the first step for good seo results. I turn away all work for affiliate and MFA sites because of that. Thing is you can do both SEO and a great site. Its not rocket science. However to be honest - Sorry - this is a marketing board. If you are not making any money from your site then your test is incomplete and really doesn't prove anything yet. Look forward to seeing some results. Although I hate adsense as a business model I don't have anything against adsense on a site that has a real business model. That would at least bring in a little change until the other monetary aspects kick in.

Building a social component to a site or a social site can be very rewarding though and it cuts down on having to always create content on your site since users do it for you too.

When we started to develop the website, we decided that making money was not important the first 2 years. We programmed to be liked and be found.

Now we have some adsense on it, and I hate it, it looks very bad and I will remove it soon.

Our money making system is totally ready, advertisers are also standing in line, just some last testing.

We are doing some tests, and it is in the pipline, but the big one to monetize it will come later this year.

I guess some of us build websites for fun, to feel good, to try some things out.... If that is you then good for you. For me, I build sites for money. In my free time I like to do other things than write content, page after page, without getting paid...

I agree with you, I started like you, but I changed my mind after some years and decided to make a monster project with all the experience I build in the last years. This experience of being found is working. And not only I add content, the users of the website add content. So I have some spare time, and I even remember how my kids look when I see them.

I think it would work in all niches, because people start to search more and more on longstrings, and that is where you win the most.

The website has 16.000.000 pages, 4.000.000 are index by Google webmasters, 234.000 are indexed when you use Google search.
Less than 5.000 pages came from the old database.

Congrats Allegando. You are doing it the right way. We constantly see posts here on how to link build in dishonest, below board ways that the search engines eventually attack and devalue. Real people are the best link builders ever. You've obviously got that part down. The monetization can be figured out as you go. Key is getting traffic in the first place.

You may want to check out Webmaster world - become a paid member. Well worth it in my opinion. Keeps out the riff raff. A completely different dynamic than here. Webmasterworld doesn't have folks asking basic SEO questions with 4 signature links touting themselves as SEO experts.

The strategy is to let other people add content, with a mix of my own content.
Off course we use sitemaps to let it all be indexed well.
I started with several thousand of cars for sale, now the website had 16.000.000 pages, a combination between long texts, short text, photo's, articles, advertisements etc etc.
The variation in the website, but all with one and the same subject makes the website interesting for Google.

It's a social network, inch a classified section, but I added a lot more.
Most important is, that it is totally focussed on one thing only tuned cars and that makes it stronger.
It's for each website, keep focused on one subject and add content, alone or with others and you will see your traffic grow and grow. The moment you go off topic, people will lose interest and Google as well.

All classifieds are posted by real sellers, no fake.

Untill now, we didn't focus on making money, but we made a money making system that we will start in the next months.

Believe it or not, a large percentage of web traffic doesn't care about those social sites (Twitter, FB, G+).

It all depends on the niche. Example, the niche I'm in doesn't care about social besides the same niche forums, but sites like web/dev do very well with social sites.

The 3 big social sites aren't one size fits all.

You have all kind of SEO experts and visions, mine is a simple one, create content, a lot of content in a feel good website so users will add more content and let Google index it. After one year and a lot of discussions on a Dutch webmaster forum I showed the results. All my criticasters became silent.

My philosophy was not to start link building, but to create a website in a niche that people like to talk about. Let other people do the link building for you. Not SEO experts, but humans who like your website, your subject and your pictures.
I started on the 21th of June with just a handfull of links, and old data base of cars for sale and a new website. The results after one year are:

259.047 Visitors came using Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex and other search engines in 12,5 months
157.344 Different keywords and strings they used.
2105 Different keywords and strings stand in the top 10 of Google in the last 3 month only.
Position 1 - 374 Keywords
Position 2 - 385 Keywords
Position 3 - 361 Keywords
141 Different Google search engines were used. (.com, .de, .ca, .nl, .co.uk, etc)
841 Different links from forums, blogs, directories and blogs come in. 98% Not asked or paid for.

For it showed that the website I created will be a solid website, that is made to last, because the way the link building is set up. If you look at the PR, it is still a PR2 for the main page. But many pages inside have a higher PR.

It also shows that a PR is not that interesting, because I out rank many higher rank website. I expect that in the next years the incoming links will go up faster and faster. All I have to do, is that what I like best. Working and improving the website, the possibilities and going on the street taking photos of more cars.
I hope that you guys and girls understand the real value of good and variation in content. If you start with content first, the backlinks will come, if you start with backlinks first, you never know if the content will come.

Because I not want this to become a promo topic for my website, I will not give it in the topic. For me it was important to share the result of a content made website. If you want to see it, send me a PM and I will give it to you. Just don't mention it in the website. Thanks.

I think that is very important, if you want to make a content website. Make it in a niche you like, love and are passionate about. Then the writing and finding new content becomes much easier.
