Hello,

I use Long tail pro to find keywords etc,

When looking for say Loreal Paris Shampoo, if the first page of Google are all shops like say Walmart, Amazon etc with the Keyword in the URL and Title but have 0 Backlinks or say No PR.

Are these still beatable?

  • The best (and most reliable) method for me is to use Moz's keyword difficulty tool. You can get a 30 day trial at Moz.com.

If the keyword difficulty rank is..

< 40 - no backlinking necessary to rank just average content
41 to 50 - low quality backlinking or epic content required to rank
50 to 70 - need high quality backlinks and good content
70+ - I stay away because the ROI usually isn't good and there is always low hanging fruit in the ~50 range

You are looking at toolbar PR which I don't think has been updated in over 6 months, but I could be wrong on that.

Moz.com keyword tool sounds impressive, not sure is it reliable, as Moz toolbar is doubtful.
    Traffic Travis has similar tool.

They might well not be beatable. If I were you, I would find the first non-amazon/walmart high ranking site and check the backlink profile. This way you'll see how much effort they put getting to where they are now.
