Hi,

Will I get penalised for having say 100 web2.0s, 10 links from my own private blog network, 5 squidoo links, 2 hubs, 20 article backlinks, 4 press releases and 5 wikis plus 5 blog comments. This link profile is obviously heavily leaned towards web2.0s. Is this diverse enough or will I get caught out?

Thanks in advance,
Seamy

Link diversity is a big myth.

Seems like people just don't get it.
Keep doing shitty links will result a penalization anyway. It doesn't matter how much you vary your link sources, if they are crap = you will not get to the top.

Crappy links are the links that you mentioned above. Look, google is looking for editorial links (in other words: they are not created by yourself, not by your SEO guy etc..).

      Squidoo - no follow
Web 2.0 - pretty much worthless without additional "help"
your own private network - good!
article backlinks - article directories are dead
wikis - IMO those are the most dangerous links ever
press release - somewhat legit (paid ones), but not much help in terms of SEO

You can easily rank your site with 100 links from resource.php pages and 0 links from other places.

      etc...

These web2.0s have lower tiers of pretty much the same crap but the content is original and good, even for the lower tiers. Is this what you mean by additional help? I am chasing non-competitive keywords as I provide local services and I am not in the affiliate market. Also what do you mean by resource.php links? Are you referring to a resource page on someone's website? I doubt I could get my sites on their as they provide services, although I do post articles to them. I use squidoo and article backlinks for diversity because this is what people keep going on about. I already use a varied set of anchors.

Resources was just 1 example out of 100ds. But I'll give you tip:
Let's say you do have a company and you provide website design (I'm not sure what's your company actually, but that's just an example).

Obviously, no-one wants to link to you because you are pushing your service. You have to be creative, as you already said: you blog - that's a good start.

But don't blog about nonsense just to gain more weight - more indexed pages, because that is exactly what Panda is after for.

So, this is what I would do:
Create one page of 2000+ words about "How to start a webdesign business".

... and start lurking around the web to find: "web development resources", "web design resources", "startup guide resources" etc.. There's plenty of webmasters who would be interested in linking to it, because it's useful & comprehensive at the same time.

Obviously you'll not get a homepage link, but you can do some internal linking from the tutorial page to your homepage. It still gives juice, you will get better rankings, those links are safe etc..

You just have to think out of the box, even when you are selling refridgerators.

          Hope that helps

So I shouldn't be posting articles to my website? I am not excessively posting pages, just about one every two weeks. They're unique and of the highest quality, why would the panda algorithm penalise me for this? This is normal practice. Sites need new content to keep visitors coming back. Having a static website that rarely updates can't be good for SEO or does Google not really care about the user experience at all and only value backlinks? Link bait is obviously the best way to build backlinks but I do not know anyone who has a website and links to other websites. These are people with legitimate websites and do not engage in any offsite seo practises. This in itself seems to be a myth.

No idea, it are not huge amounts so if you use a wide enough anchor text variety then you should be ok I guess.

Personally I would do something like this:

    - 33% branded anchor text's
    - 33% money keywords
    - 33% generic keywords

or perhaps 50/25/25 or 50/30/20 or whatever, just make sure you don't have to many money keywords that include the same type of keywords as that can get disastrous.

You are diversifying only link building methods/sources..

You also have to think of anchor text..

Amount of links you build in a day..

    Content you use etc.
